  1. Hey all, So, I recently applied for a summer technician (internship-ish) position at Fermilab, and am not getting feedback about my application (outside of an automated response). I was extremely qualified for the job, so it makes me think that they're just a bit slow on the decision process. Has anyone else ever applied for a position there? It's the epitome of a "dream-job" situation, so it would be a shame to miss out on it due to odd complications! In the past, I have applied for more formal internship/fellowship programs at government laboratories, which understandably took ages to process, but this is the first time that I've gone the "direct" route. Thanks in advance!
  2. Wow, I'd love to hear how you decided on Physics after ISE! How was your physics GRE? I assume they're requiring that for admission. If you're in the 90th percentile or higher in math on the general subject test, that might help get you past not having the PGRE under your belt yet. Hope you applied and got into the school! It's definitely a nice place for those who want to be exposed to a little bit of everything.
  3. Wow, very impressive qualifications there! I have heard good things about Virginia Tech's high energy physics program, in addition to theoretical astrophysics (one of my best buddies in applied physics was considering studying CP violation, and had a man-crush on a VT professor). Did you consider UMD or Colorado? They both have an intimate research relationship with NIST, with plenty of opportunities in quantum mechanics and nuclear physics.
  4. I second that. Got my "full" acceptance letter around the 13th for the MSEE program. Hope you get your notice soon! As I've found in the engineering research and science sectors, administrative tasks don't exactly take the first priority. Definitely stay in contact with the department, or try candidly asking any professors with whom you may have already established a positive rapport.
  5. Hey All, I just accepted an offer for the MSEE program! I have an Applied Physics background and will be studying Applied Electromagnetics and Biomedical Engineering. Specifically, I'm interested in developing next-generation wireless power systems in the near and far fields, as well as novel medical imaging systems (especially in MRI and other tomographic systems). If things go well, I may even consider moving onto the PhD track down the road. What a great breadth of strong programs at State... and how about that Centennial Campus?? Plus, if you're paying in-state tuition (like myself), it's hard to find a better valued graduate education out there. Has anyone had success in securing some type of funding for their first semester? I'm trying to jump on board a research fellowship/assistantship within E.E. right off the bat. However, in talking to a few professors, it looks as though I'm going to have to be "vetted" before they're willing to take a chance with their precious program funds. Anyone else here in EE or BME? I'd love to hear from you. Congrats to all who've accepted, and cheers to a successful graduate career!
