  1. *Oops! my gpa is 9.2/ 10 and not out of 100
  2. I would like to apply for the Commonwealth Scholarships for Developing Countries 2013. I am applying under the 'taught masters' category My concerns are the following: 1) should I have already applied to the programmes of my choice when I apply for the scholarship (the deadline for which in my country is 7th October, so this seems a little less pragmatic) 2) what exactly is this nominating agency? So when I try to apply online, there are 2 agencies listed - the Ministry of Human Resource and University Grants Commission. With respect to the former, in brackets it says "inward"- so does that mean my nominating agency is the UGC? 3) I am currently employed. So if I am submitting an online application, should I submit a 'No-objection' certificate from my employer? Can some one please address these concerns of mine? Thanks in advance!
  3. Hi all I finished my Masters in Economics from a reputed technological university in my country. However, there are two drawbacks to the course: a) I am one among the second batch of students who graduated from an Arts programme in a pre-dominantly technological institute, and hence there is no established reputation for the course. (That said, my classmates are in reputed places like LSE.) Also, since it was an Integrated Masters, we effectively did only 3 years of Economics, with the first two years focussing on various disciplines of humanities and social sciences- like Philosphy, Literature, Sociology, History and the like. My GPA at the end of 5 years in 9.12/100. The core economic courses I have done are: Agricultural Economics  Applied Econometrics  Basic Statistics  Econometrics (I and II)  Economics of Healthcare  Economics of Social Issues  Field Methods and Report Writing  Fundamentals of Operations Research  Game Theory (I and II)  Growth and Development  History of Economics  International Economics  Macroeconomics (I and II)  Microeconomics (I and II)  Mini Project (Field Methods)  Money, Banking and Financial Markets  Optimization and Economic Theory  Principles of Economics  Public Economics My grades range from A+, A or A- in these courses. Also, I have had to submit a Master's thesis for the completion of my degree. I will get solid letters of recommendation from my professors. Also my GRE scores are 163 verbal (91st percentile), 162 quant (86th percentile) and 5 AW (92nd percentile). I have done a couple of internships, one of which gave me an international exposure. With these qualifications, what are the chances of making into a top school for Economics/ Development Economics masters? More specifially, I am looking at LSE's Economics and Philosophy M.Sc, Oxford' s Economics for Development M.Sc, SOAS' Development Economics M.Sc and UCL's M.Sc Economics. Eventually, I would like to get in to a Ph.D programme. My major concern is my GRE quant score which is not above the 90th percentile. Should I retake it again and try my luck? Please share your opinions. THANKS!
  4. Does anyone know what cut-off GRE scores they employ to screen applicants for 'Economics for Development' at Oxford? And also for the same at Warwick? I took my GRE and my scores are 163 (96th percentile) verbal/ 162 (86th) Quant/ 5 (92nd) for AW. My GPA on conversion from a 10 scale at an Asian University, translates to 4/4 for UK system, I am told. My letters of recommendation are strong. I have done my Masters in Economics from a reputed univrersity. With all these, do I stand a chance of making it to these programmes? Should I be re-taking my GRE again?
  5. I did my Masters in Economics. And I would not be posting here if I scored 98 percentile in Math. I got 162 which is 86th percentile. So!
  6. * that smiley over there is supposed to be option 'b'
  7. The thing is I do not know how to improve it. I do not think I did mediocre in Math because I was not thorough with the concepts or lack of practice. The first section was a cake walk, and the second one just got me off-guard. The questions were very unconventional, and I could not figure out what skills of Math ETS was testing for. For example, I had a question like: 'If a triangle and a square has n common points, then n cannot be which of the following?' Options a) 2 4 c) 6 d) 8 I have not come across such questions in any of the practice tests I did either in ETS, Kaplan or Princeton. Also, does anyone know what could be the possible number of wrong answers for a 90th percentile plus for quant?
  8. Hi guys! I just took my GRE last week too. But the results are not great- 163 (91st percentile) for verbal, 162 (86th percentile) for quant and 5 (92nd percentile) for Analytical writing. The thing is I am looking at Economics programmes at schools like LSE which require extremely good scores, especially in quant. My quant scores especially seem to be lacking.. Should I be re-taking the test? Can someone from Economics programmes reply please, as to what generally is the cut off for top schools. I have a GPA of 4/4 and good recommendations. So all things considered, what should I do?
