  1. le_neocon, In many respects, I have a similar background (EE undergrad, CFA charterholder and banking experience). However, it seems that I am older than you. I have been talking HKS alumni and admissions staff about applying to the school, and the feedback is very positive. So I would say that you stand a good chance (given you GRE scores and quant background), if you can persuade Adcoms that you have a genuine interest in the public sector. Full disclosure: I am interested in HKS's Mid career program, and I don't know how much more stringent the admission criteria for the other HKS programs may be. Hope this helps.
  2. zourah, thanks for replying. As I said, I believe my language is generic enough not to disclose confidential info. I was curious about what adcom policies/practices are on the matter, just to reinforce my comfort level.
  3. I am neither referring to personal nor to military/national security info. I am in the finance/investment industry, and I have access to information that, if revealed, could affect the stock price or the reputation of a company for instance...Enough said. Now do you have any insights regarding the concern that I highlighted in my original post?
  4. Hi all, I am throwing this out for you guys to weigh in. I am preparing a few essays for MPA/MPP programs. In some of the essays, I feel that I need to incorporate info about my experience that is confidential. I believe that I am being generic enough not to reveal any such info; however, I still wonder what admission committees policies are on this matter, and how discreet staff are when it comes to handling confidential info from applicants. Please share your experience. Thanks in advance for your insights...
  5. I am assuming you want to transition to the public sector, hence your interest in an MPA program. However, given such a condescending perception, I wonder how you'll be able to get along with your prospective colleagues ( or even make the transition in the first place).
  6. Spotted, You've some great stats. I am surprised that you didn't get in. What are your plans going forward, if you don't get off the waitlist? It seems that WWS's MPP is very competitive, and given the program's small size, I doubt I will make the cut. Your stats are better than mine, and my experience is not necessarily superior to yours. (what books/resources did you use to prepare for the GRE?) Any other Mid-Career applicants around?
  7. SottedToad, I am also interested in Mid-Career (MC) programs, including WWS's MPP. Did you apply to any other MC programs? I am thinking of applying to HKS MC/MPA. I have about the same number of years of work experience, and I fear that WWS or HKS will advise me to apply to 2-year programs. I think I may be too old for those 2-year programs (I am toward my mid-thirties) Would you mind sharing your stats (GRE, GPA...)? It seems that most people here are early in their career; any other Mid-Career applicants?
  8. I'll be applying for 2010 but for Public Affairs mid-career programs. I am looking into HKS, SIPA, and WWS. Which MIT program is IR related? What resources are you using to prepare for the GRE?
  9. Anyone has any thoughts? I really need some info on this.
  10. I'm curious to know whether anyone has insights regarding SIPA's one-year program in economic policy management (PEPM). It appears that the program is for mid-career professionals but I wonder what the students age range and experience level are. How reputable is the program? Does the SIPA community treat and perceive those students the same way it does the MIA and MPA student? I appreciate any insights.
  11. I am looking to apply to HKS's MC/MPA program for Fall2010. I can either apply to the regular program or through the Mason program. Anyone knows the pros/cons of applying through either program? Which one is more competitive for admissions? Thanks in advance for any insights.
