  1. Anyone need a roommate? I am heading to UW in the AUT quarter and am looking for a place to live next year. I'm a M.S. in Civil (Structural) Engineering student.
  2. I was curious about this. Because I have funding from my current school and will be able to finish very quickly. However, I would like to research at another school maybe next year. Is there any benefit to having two MS in Structural?
  3. Is it too late to receive funding offers from schools? (UW Seattle, CU Boulder, Colorado State) Because I have not heard a word on funding. I was told they would let me know, but it is April 15th. I emailed CU and CSU a week ago with no reply.
  4. Lexington is a great city to live in. If I hadn't grown up here, I would have no problem staying here. Lexington does not have too many bad parts but I would say generally you want to stay just south of downtown. State street/University ave/Waller ave/Conn terr. are all party streets for undergrads, so avoid that side of campus, unless you are into burning couches when the bball team wins.Anything along Euclid avenue tends to be nice housing, all within a 5-10 minute walk to class. There are a few parts just north of downtown that are kind of bad. However, the north side has been changing dramatically over the past couple of years and has become kind of a "hip" area with all the new microbreweries (West Sixth Brewery is the place to be), coffee shops, bike shops. The city has also become more "artsy" , they even let famous graffiti artists paint beautiful murals in certain areas (mostly just north of downtown). If you aren't wanting a big city like NYC, it is nice. If you like outdoors, the Red River Gorge is about a 50 minute drive , it is beautiful and internationally known for it's rock climbing. Go enjoy the horse racing, bourbon, and basketball!
  5. I've been accepted at UC Boulder for a MS in structural. Does anyone know if Boulder is likely to offer MS students funding? I was told they sometimes do.
  6. I, too, applied to UW-Seattle. Though it is for a M.S. in Structural Engineering. Hopefully we will hear back soon, and good luck.
  7. considering you got 180 out of 170Q on the GRE I'd say so! All jokes aside, I would say you have a good chance. I am assuming you are applying for masters?
  8. scofield24, would you mind posting your profile? Where all did you apply?
  9. I've got an offer for my master's to be paid for, but I would have to attend the same mediocre school for my master's. Would it be worth it to possibly go into debt and go to a well known, top program? The real question is, will I be limiting by opportunities by not going to a top school?
  10. I have been considering going abroad and get my masters for the experience and it is much cheaper. However, I want to come back and work in the states. Will having a masters from a different country make me less likely to get a job here in america? And I know it probably won't but will it affect my licensing at all? (I am structural eng. so this is important.)
  11. This forum may not be much help to you. It is for graduate school. Try college confidential or one of those sites more geared towards undergraduate education.
  12. I am just curious about this. Many people seem to get into top schools when they do not apply for funding. I have a mediocre GPA 3.3-3.4 out of 4.0 and will most likely go to a school that will fund me and/or meet my needs the most. However, I am still going to apply to my dream school (which is like 3 places right now in the top 30 lol) and just seeing if anyone feels it has had an affect on their admission.
  13. Thanks! Lehigh is actually one of the schools that stood out to me so, I will probably apply there as well. Goodluck, and if you remember, let me know how it goes. If you don't mind me asking, what other schools have you decided on?
  14. I wish I could add to this but I am applying for M.S. in structural engineering a year from now so I will be checking it out. What have you got so far, and where will you be applying? I'm assuming since you made this thread you've probably already have your list of schools, GRE and whatnot's.
  15. Thanks, I will look into those. I'm willing to go anywhere but if it's close that's always a plus...Also, does anyone know anything about UC boulder's structural program? Would lehigh be a realistic option for me? or are they top tier as well?
