  1. No actually. The first one was in Construction Management. The second one was in Structural Engineering. If I go to CMU, the third one will also be in Structural Engineering!

I was curious about this. Because I have funding from my current school and will be able to finish very quickly. However, I would like to research at another school maybe next year. Is there any benefit to having two MS in Structural?

  2. Lexington is a great city to live in. If I hadn't grown up here, I would have no problem staying here. Lexington does not have too many bad parts but I would say generally you want to stay just south of downtown. State street/University ave/Waller ave/Conn terr. are all party streets for undergrads, so avoid that side of campus, unless you are into burning couches when the bball team wins.Anything along Euclid avenue tends to be nice housing, all within a 5-10 minute walk to class. There are a few parts just north of downtown that are kind of bad. However, the north side has been changing dramatically over the past couple of years and has become kind of a "hip" area with all the new microbreweries (West Sixth Brewery is the place to be), coffee shops, bike shops. The city has also become more "artsy" , they even let famous graffiti artists paint beautiful murals in certain areas (mostly just north of downtown). If you aren't wanting a big city like NYC, it is nice. If you like outdoors, the Red River Gorge is about a 50 minute drive , it is beautiful and internationally known for it's rock climbing. Go enjoy the horse racing, bourbon, and basketball!

  3. If anyone else here is applying to the University of Washington in Seattle, I expect that we'll hear back from them in the next 2-3 weeks based on an email conversation that I had with a POI there. Any leads on other programs or info about visit dates, etc. would be great if anyone has heard anything.

I, for one, am glad that the seemingly endless month of January is almost over and hope that the decisions start rolling in soon. The silence has been deafening.

I, too, applied to UW-Seattle. Though it is for a M.S. in Structural Engineering. Hopefully we will hear back soon, and good luck.

  4. I have been considering going abroad and get my masters for the experience and it is much cheaper. However, I want to come back and work in the states. Will having a masters from a different country make me less likely to get a job here in america? And I know it probably won't but will it affect my licensing at all? (I am structural eng. so this is important.)

  5. I am just curious about this. Many people seem to get into top schools when they do not apply for funding. I have a mediocre GPA 3.3-3.4 out of 4.0 and will most likely go to a school that will fund me and/or meet my needs the most. However, I am still going to apply to my dream school (which is like 3 places right now in the top 30 lol) and just seeing if anyone feels it has had an affect on their admission.

  6. Attend: a State school

    CGPA 3.2

    MGPA: 3.6

No GRE yet- lets just say if it's around Q: 730-760(old version) V:? W:?

1 year research experience in the structures lab at my school, under a well known professor(in this region anyway).

    1 publication

Looking to do M.S. or M. eng

I have a few schools that are top tier that I will likely apply. However, my problem is finding a school that fits my stats as well as interests(I'm sure this is a common issue on here). UT Austin and UCSD are what fit my interest most, However, I may have issue's getting accepted.

Any suggestions on good programs, that are not the best of the best? it seems all you read about are the top 10-15 schools. I would like to go to the best program I can possibly get into, but I do not have superman stats.

I would appreciate any input. I have been searching this forum, trying to figure these things out for a while now.
