  1. As far as I know some work experience might help to find a job and even getting into good schools. But it all depends upon the need of the employers, how good connections at your school you make and the job description. I assume you will be looking for job in Canada post-MPH, good news is the immigration laws in Canada tend to be a bit generous than USA does. Thanks. Waiting to hear from seniors about my post.
  2. Hi All, I am so glad to read through all the posts created on this forum, its indeed a blessing to be a member of this great community. Anyway, I am a recent graduate with a bachelors degree from a Big 10 university in Midwest and planning on applying to Public health programs in USA and from other countries for the Fall of 2015. List of the universities attending this fair can be found here- http://www.idealist.org/explore/8XmMK5bsb7SP/exhibitors My profile so far- B.S. (Health sciences) GPA :- (~3.1) I am aware of my GPA and I believe I do have various other relevant activities done in my undergrad to cmpensate for my GPA, however. GRE : Yet to be taken , mostly end of this year, if I need to apply I could mention the date of the exam scheduled, if needed. Research expereince :- From most recent 1) Internship with an NGO in India- 4 months, worked with tribal school studnets in order to create awareness about Malaria and nandwashing with the help of soap, prepared questionnaires, data analysis, manuscript is underway. 2) Study abroad/Medical volunteering in China, both total for 5 weeks, observed an dtsudied traditional and modern health care system of China by visiting rural and urban health provder settings and studied at a well known Chinese university where I finished couple of graduate courses focused on global health systems. 3) Research Assistant- 1 year- duties involved interacted with multiple sclerosis patients, data analysis 4) Medical volunteering in Ecuador- 2 weeks, bult toilets for school going kids in the school, health education presentations Tons of laboratory experience in various labs which I don't know would count if I opt for public health. Meanwhile I will be attending a big Graduate schools Univerities fair organized by Idealist in Chicago to be held at UIC campus on Oct 23rd which focuses on professional programs such as MPH, MSW, MSEd etc. Being such a big fair I would like to be precise and quick while asking my questions to the representatives of various universities. I have some questions in my mind esp- 1) recent alum job positions, 2) coursework load, 3) funding opportunities, 4) potential to continue to PhD 5) Accepatance into PhD, if Masters is done from out of USA. The schools I have in mind are mostly Boston U, Big 10 (Michigan, Minnesota) , WashU at St. Louis (mostly their PhD in Public health science program after having my MPH) Are there any particular schools that seniors here would want me to look for (besides those which are popular)? Also, since there will be Public policy schools of the universities, does any one here know if one can do public policy degree with a focus on health? And now I am wondering id senior members here could suggest me anything more to ask them which they usually do not mention in their FAQs section and I am missing out in my list mentioned above. Also, I am more than willing to ask the questions on someones's behalf who is on a same page as me and would like to know about any particular school(s). List of the universities attending this fair can be found here- http://www.idealist.org/explore/8XmMK5bsb7SP/exhibitors Anything relevant info to ask them and/or questions, comments are welcome. Thanks to all who contribute their time and effort in order to keep this forum moving.
  3. Very good profile I must say! Just a suggestion- Have you thought of applying to MPP only ? You may use this MPP as a gateway to get into MS in Education or Ed.M programs (esp in the universities having both School of Education and School of Public policy). This is a secondary option is suggsted assuming that you will be applying to MS in education at some places primarily. Also may wanna check Duke Universitiy's Summer Public Policy Program in Geneva, Switzerland, although not sure if it has any education component attached. Hope this helps! Best Wishes.
