  1. Hello there I have a question about recommendation letters. I'm applying these days for a PhD. My first recommendation is from a prof that is into my field and well known and he's gonna give me a very good letter. He is from my undergraduate studies. The problem is that I don't know what to do with my second letter. My master degree didn't go very well and with my dissertation's supervisor I don't have much contact. He only knows about me that I had two good grades (one of them is my best grade in master) on his courses. But he is a well known professor. I don't know many of my graduate teachers and they don't know me respectively. My second option is to ask from an undergraduate teacher the second letter but my master's supervisor is more known. I also learned that he is quite rough with recommendation letters. What do you advise me to do ? I am so anxious about my applications because my master's gpa is not too good and I don't have a plan B if I rejected everywhere.
  2. Hello there, This is my first post in this forum. I am looking for a phd in Physics for the next year and i would like to ask some questions. I know exactly in what area i want to work, so i have started to search for professors in this field and sending them emails for asking for a position. The thing is that I don't know if i have a possibility to get into a phd based on the competitiveness. I'm searching for universities mostly in Europe countries, like UK, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Sweden etc. I have a bachelor degree with 1st (actually i am at the top 3% of students) from an Czech University and i am at the end of my master degree. My graduate studies have not gone very well, I am at the third year, writing my dissertation and my GPA is 2:1. Do you thing that I have any possibilities for a funding phd ? Also, I have a problem with the IELTS test because my English level is not too good. So how much time do you thing that I have to be prepared for it ? Thanks, Lyremy
