  1. I got a call from UMN too...I got in! Seems like a lucky day. AND it was from one of the professors I was interested in working with. Awesome! I hope I'll be able to go to the visit weekend in March. If I haven't already committed to another school by then I'll probably be there.
  2. oooh, now I can't wait to hear back from Minnesota! It makes sense that you would hear back first if your application was teh awesome. I imagine there's a little more back-and-forth with professors if your case isn't as clear cut. I won't be shocked if I don't get in though...again, my research fit was not the best for the department and for whatever reason, I just didn't feel as confident about my application to there.
  3. Maybe some current grad students can help me out with this line of speculation. I got my B.S. in bioengineering from a small state school that isn't well-recognized nationally. I had a 3.76 GPA, which I always considered to be not too shabby, until I applied to grad school. The rule of thumb I had always heard was that anything above a 3.5 is fine, but higher is better. Now I worry that my 3.76 from Nowhere State isn't comparing well to similar GPAs from Stanford and MIT. Do you think the perceived prestige/difficulty of your undergraduate school matters in graduate admissions? Not that I can really do anything about my GPA now...just curious to see what others think.
  4. Rejected from Northwestern.
  5. Forgot to say, GOOD LUCK to everyone else! Keep us updated on how your interviews and visit weekends go.
  6. Well, crap. I guess my 2 summers of research and my publication count for nil with Purdue. I wonder what exactly they were looking for??? On the less bitter side, my research interests didn't mesh that well with that department so that may have been it. That, and I never contacted professors there to see if they were taking students - very stupid move on my part! Still, there were a number of professors I would've liked to work with and I would have appreciated having at least a chance... I don't think I'm going to bother calling. I'll just wait for my rejection letter to show up sometime in March or April.
  7. Has anyone else heard back from either Purdue or Case Western? This is really agonizing! I don't care if you reject me, just TELL ME. The fact that I haven't had either an acceptance or rejection from either of these schools is making me feel very "second string." Like, "We'll let you in, maybe, if the people we REALLY want don't want to come here."
  8. Yeah, I saw that WUSTL interview too...I was like HOLY CRAP WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY...can you give me some of your admissions karma? anonymous, good luck with UT-Austin! The suspense would be killing me right now too. A friend of mine did his undergrad there and loved it. Austin's a fun place, too.
  9. *looks around* *raises hand* It's official. I have no life anymore.
  10. I guess it's not that bad since their deadline was Jan. 15 - but still, that was like 2 weeks ago! Someone on another forum said they got a rejection from Northwestern BME. I guess in that case it's a good sign that I haven't heard anything. Still no word from Case Western on their Open House. They said they were "finalizing" invitations in their last email, so it didn't sound like I was definitely invited. If I don't hear from them by the beginning of next week, I'm going to assume I'm no longer in the running.
  11. I'm also applying to Ph.D. programs in bioengineering/biomedical engineering. I'm pretty disappointed that I haven't heard back from Purdue. I guess that's a bad sign, huh? I thought I had a good chance of getting in there. I wonder what it was about my app that fell short. I got a cryptic email from Case Western last week saying that my application was "favorably reviewed" and that information about the Open House would follow. I guess I'm not in, but I've made the first cut? It also looks like some people have heard back from Northwestern's program. No word there either. On the other hand, at least I haven't had any outright rejections. Anyone else feeling like they're descending into grad school application limbo? Accepted: University of Alabama - Birmingham Rejected: none Still waiting: Case Western Reserve University, University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, Northwestern University, Boston University, Purdue University
