Did you graduate already from undergrad already, or are you a senior?
I graduated a semester early so in January 2011, and am finishing my second year with AmeriCorps now before I decided to apply to grad programs.

bbergstrom, you finished your applications so early! Is this normal/recommended? I thought that submitting mine only a few weeks early would be ok, but I have just now started my personal statements so I'm kind of worried!
a lot of the programs I applied to were rolling admissions, so it was recommended to apply early, thus a better chance of getting in! it's really up to you and depends on how the program you apply to accepts people- whether it be rolling or at a specified date. good luck!

HI ALL!
So nice to hear from other pro-active people who apply almost an entire school year early!
I finished my applications on 9/29... I applied to:
NYU - very surprised to get my acceptance 10/19 with $8,000/year academic award
Fordham
CUNY- Hunter College
UCONN
University of New England
- I want to stay in the New York City area, and did not apply to Columbia because all reviews of their program focused on research, and my preference is clinical/case work.
- I am kind of entering this application process blindly.. I only had about a 3.5 undergrad GPA from a Connecticut state school, but spent two years in AmeriCorps, a summer in Africa, and had some very good recommendation letters. Not sure what the programs take into consideration most, and none of the schools I am applying to require the GRE.
GOODLUCK to everyone

They gave me two weeks to save my spot with a non-refundable $200.00 deposit. So I put in my deposit just in case as I wait to hear back from the other schools (Fordham and Hunter have spring programs so the admissions office said they were working on those application decisions first) but either way, I have a spot.. if I lose the $200 and choose to go to another school, it isn't the end of the world. just want to play it safe!
