Hi, I am very interested in this thread. I am going to apply to the HGSE for Fall 2013 but I am curious what other peoples' objectives are. I have just been doing some looking and it seems like there are so many different fellowship degrees out there that will pay for the master's that I am wondering if I am making a mistake in overlooking these. My current plan as follows was to apply to HGSE, TC, UPenn, Michigan, Stanford and maybe a couple more. I have been drawn toward the Philosophy & Education thread at TC and the Learning & Teaching track at HGSE. I wish I could say my plan was more exact but I have interests in teaching at the secondary level and possibly going on further to education leadering roles or university teaching. Am I making a mistake in avoiding the traditional certification route? It just seems if I want employment when I am done with a masters (which I sincerely do), I am avoiding the most direct paths. The fellowship tracks, such as NYC Teaching Fellows, etc. . . had never really appealed to me before but maybe they are something to consider, too? Would love to hear from other people what their thoughts are. Also, stats to follow at some later date. . . still have not taken my GRE yet.
