  1. I'm hoping to study in fluid mechanics. What about you? Oh and good luck with your apps for UTAustin!

I didn't contact any professors and they did not contact me (other than the email saying to check my status online). What's your intended area of study?

But I understand how you feel... Some people got into UT-Austin for Aero a few days ago and I'm still waiting for a response...

  2. Perhaps they cannot finalize their decision until the application is marked as complete (if your official transcript is the only item left to complete your app). The official transcript might be a University wide requirement before any action (I assume a positive action since a rejection comes to incomplete applications as well) can be taken on the application.

That said, weird that they want an official transcript. All of my applications except for one wanted just a scanned version of the official and I would only need an official transcript if I was accepted (and accepted their acceptance). Something about saving trees I imagine.

It makes sense what you said. I have a feeling that they might need my official transcript before they can review it. Like, the graduate office would not release the application to the department to review unless it were complete. If they can reject an incomplete application, I feel its on the basis of it being incomplete, not lacking academic merit. Just a guess though, any thoughts?

  3. A DGS who called me to inform me I was on the wait list said he would email me with his office # so that we could "keep in touch" during the application process. This was on Jan 27. I didn't hear back at all from him so I emailed him Feb 1 with my office # and asked for his in return. Still no reply. I'm assuming he's very busy at this period but I can't help but think they silently withdrew me from the wait list and now just don't want to bother telling me.

What should I do?! Email again? Give the department a call? I don't want to pester the guy...

I wouldn't think calling the dept or e-mailing him again after some time is out of line. He did say to keep in touch! Don't lose hope :)

So I just got an e-mail from the graduate school of admissions and they told me they've reviewed my application but they couldn't proceed as there were missing my official transcript. I've already gotten an e-mail from the department before requesting the transcript and I sent, by their request, the unofficial transcripts for them to review. I believe I may be over-thinking this but since the second notice was coming from the graduate school, not the department, would it be safe to assume that a decision has been made and they're are just waiting for the transcript to notify me of their decision?

  4. I got an email today saying they reviewed my application for admission but were unable to proceed because they did not have my transcript. It then instructs me to send my transcript to their office.

Would they ask for my transcript and then subsequently reject me? I hope its not a formality for them to have a complete app before they can issue a rejection. I would just hate to send in my transcript and then right after get denied.

  5. So, in applying for graduate school, I asked a professor, whom I have been doing research with for a long time, to write me a letter of recommendation. He gladly agreed and promptly filled out all of the invitations except for the one at my current university. In reminding him through e-mail, I got no response from him and left it at that because it seems as though he knows what he's doing. However, to this day, he still  hasn't submitted it and I am scared it will hurt my chances. I don't want to keep badgering him but at the same time, I want to know what is going on. what should I do?

  6. So I got my decision and it was a rejection. It was a weird one because I had just sent them an emailing asking for an update. Seems that I may have pushed them into rejecting me as my email want the nicest and best worded email. Anyways, good luck to the rest who are waiting to hear back.

  7. Well, their FAQ says results for m.s. ate expected to be out April through June so they are still consisting us. It's a good thing we haven't heard back because there have been a lot more rejections than admits so looks like their slowly weeding out people while sending acceptances for higher qualified candidates.

  8. Its okay. As long as it showed your propensity to do research the experience you had is fine. Maybe you should mention your letter of recommendation so people get a better idea to gauge your application.

But hey, Columbia is my top choice too! Which did you apply for? I applied for modi's group

  9. Hey!

I'm a mechanical engineering too applying at pretty much the same schools. From what I see you are quite a competitive applicant at even a PhD level. What did you do in your undergraduate thesis?

Also. Princeton m.s. is very very tough. (Last years statistics shows 1 admitted). Did you already apply?
