  1. I think that depends on how you define "worth it". Some people think "worth it" means they can get money from it or they can get a highly paid job from it, while some people think "worth it" means it is their dream/what they are passionate about so it makes them happy. To me, before I started grad school, I knew I had always wanted to go to grad school, do research and eventually find a job in academia, because I like that a lot - that is what my passion is on and doing that makes me happy. I know I can probably also get a decent paid job even with my BS in chemistry, but "decent paid job" does not necessarily equal to a happy life (to me, anyway), so I got into grad school and so far I'm pretty happy about my life. So I would say before you get started, ask yourself what you want, be very honest with yourself, and make sure you know what YOU want, not what other people want from you or what others will think of you, etc.. If you think a PhD worth it, go for it!! (And good luck!!)
  2. I would rather this being a troll than being too late...
  3. On desk: a cup, a computer (desktop, belongs to the lab anyway), some scratch papers, three notebooks, a book that I'm currently reading (research related), a few pens, In the top, smaller drawer: a big bag of chocolate (MUST!!), a spoon, a stapler, some sticky notes In the bottom, bigger drawer: a small purse (in case I don't have pockets on my outfit, I can still carry things around), a hoodie (the temperature in my office can be weird...and gets very cold), a can of herbal tea On the shelf: a small bag with a comb, hand cream, hand sanitizer, a small mirror, a few cute hair clips and hair bands (yep, I'm a girl), and some books, binders with papers sorted by field of study on the side against the wall.
  4. I lost more than 10 pounds after I started grad school (I was not big to begin with, 130 lbs for a 5'4'' female), at first it was because of getting hurt by a broken relationship...I lost 10 pound within one week when that relationship was broken because I was too sad to eat anything, then gained some weight back, then my research/teaching/course work get very intense and I was exhausted all the time, so I lost more weight than I gained back. I like being slim, though.
