  1. I did consider CUNY, and was actually accepted there for the MLS program a couple of years ago. To be honest, I decided against going there for two main reasons -- first, the program seemed disorganized and outdated; and second, their archives course offerings didn't seem very strong. Since I have a specific idea of what I want to do, it seems to me that it makes the most sense to find a program that can provide stronger, more specialized training -- which pretty much left me with Pratt or LIU, and Pratt was ultimately more convenient. In terms of cost, I'm fortunate in that my employer will reimburse me for the cost of the degree. But even with the reimbursement, it's still a serious financial commitment. Believe me, I wish CUNY was a better program for my needs. :/
  2. Hey folks, Does anyone have any info or thoughts about Pratt Institute being downgraded to Conditional Accreditation by the ALA? I just applied for this fall so I've been all over their website (and the ALA website, etc...) but this is the first I've seen of it. Anybody hear anything about why this is going on? Thanks in advance
  3. Hello, folks! Would anyone be willing to take a quick look at my draft SOP? It's a bit over 500 words long. Unfortunately everyone I know is knee-deep in MSc dissertation work, so I'm a bit at loose ends for second opinions. Any help would be massively appreciated, and I'd also be more than willing to swap with you if you'd like your SOP read too! Thanks in advance
  4. Sorry to hear this happened to you, and I don't blame you for declining. While what happened to me wasn't as bad, a similar series of miscommunications and lost documents played a pretty big role in my turning down Queens College when I was accepted last admissions season. I've worked in postgraduate admissions offices in the past, and while I know firsthand how hectic things can get at the height of the season, there's absolutely no excuse for jerking prospective students around, losing documents, etc.
  5. It's definitely possible - I submitted my application for an MSc at University of Edinburgh in April of last year; because of problems with my documents, my application wasn't officially final until around the middle of May. I was accepted around the beginning of July, I think. Like you've said, the major problem is that the funding deadlines will most likely all have passed by the time you hear back officially from any departments, so you'll have to self-fund. For what it's worth, I've really been enjoying my course (Eighteenth Century Cultures) at Edinburgh -- my application process and first term were a little complicated, but I'd be happy to answer any questions you've got about the school, etc.
  6. Hey folks, Would any of you have any knowledge/opinions/info to share about SUNY Albany's MSIS program (specifically their archives concentration)? CUNY Queens getting downgraded has put me (and I'm sure many of my fellow New Yorkers) in the uncomfortable boat of trying to find another suitable library program offered by a public school in NYS... and it looks like Albany is it, since as far as I could find Buffalo doesn't have an archives track. I've poked through older posts a few times and haven't found any real discussion of the program up at Albany; not knowing anyone up at their program, there's only so much I can get out of their official website. Thanks for any help you can offer!
