Um, for now, I don't know yet.

Updates on Columbia. According to a friend of mine at Columbia (History department), the decisions of admissions will made (I guess finalized) this Friday, and that the admitted students will receive a FEDEX overnight package, or a email rejection -.-. So probably there will be some kind of news by next Monday. So, like me, no news still can be good news, although I've also heard that another friend of friend at Columbia has been ordered (?) to contact whom and whom to recruit them (that was about 10 days ago...) Let us keep our fingers crossed! um, and although early notifications are indeed promising to those admitted, I do wish the departments would not reveal any results before official decisions. As most of us here agree, it's too painful for people waiting news.

Okay and understood :-) Once again, good luck to all

Dear daydaydvd. I am asking this question out of curiosity and probably ignorance. Is there any specific reason that I might have to reject my offers fast? Will if have any effect on my application, or perhaps to other people who are applying? Thanks for you answer in advance.

Update on UMich. I received an email from UMich AA, telling me that it was the initial notification. 5 years package included, and more details to come! Keeping my fingers crossed for all the other people here~

Thanks AMC, I hope to hear from U Michigan AA.

Congratulation to those who got into Michigan AA. May I ask what your fields of interest are? I also applied to the same school, but I haven't received any phone calls yet - maybe because I'm an international?

Happy Birthday el217. I wish you good luck!

With my limited experience, I'll try to answer what I can. 1. When I contacted a Prof. at Yale, asking for advice on the application procedures, her short reply was an emphasis on "essays". I know it's ambiguous, it might mean the SOP, the WS, or a separate book review that was requested on the application material (only found on Yale), but at least she didn't say anything about "I expect at least bla bla bla on GRE" or anything like that. In contrast, I remember that the homepage of the History department of Columbia said "WS are usually the most important factor in the final rounds" or something like that. LOR, I guess nobody will know how decisive they can be, as nobody knows what their recommender wrote for themselves. 2. I've interviewed with a Prof at Princeton, but still, no further news or email after the interview last week. Also, I thinks this interview was more like an "English speaking test" for international applicants like me. I've just heard from my friend that somebody he knew got into Columbia, but I've also read a post here and also heard from a grad. student at Columbia saying that there will be a final meeting on the 22nd. That grad student also told me that there had been some changes in the decision procedure this year, so it's being slowed down compared to last year. So, I guess we can still keep our hope. I've also replied for UMich@AA, but not a single word after an email telling me that they had received all of my application materials. I guess that all I can share. Oh, and for UCLA applicants, I did post that I got good news from the Prof. I had in mind, but he said that official notification will come out in one or two weeks, and there has been no further words after that. FYI.

I just posted my results from Yale at the results section. After being interviewed 10 days ago with 2 Profs. from Yale, I finally got an email from my potential advisor, and also one of her Ph.D students that I had known personally. I'll post more details later, but for now I'm just adding some follow-up information to the posting I wrote at the results section. Good luck to all. ps. My GRE scores weren't that great, in fact, my verbal was less than 700, and the my writing score were only 4.5. Well, maybe my background as not being and American was also put into consideration (I'm a South Korean), but still I think it would be worth to share this information.

I do suggest that History should belong under Humanities. Actually all of the 2008 Grad School discussion are done over there at Humanities, not Social Science.

Korea, in fact

Interviewed this morning from a Princeton Professor. Actually, I was sleeping late in the morning, and he just called me without any notification! I posted the results as "East Asian Languages and Civilization", but actually Princeton has only a History Department and a East Asian Studies Department. When I contacted the Professor before I submitted my application (last december), he actually advised me to apply to the East Asian Studies department instead of the History department. I guess that's something normal at Princeton, cause I know a friend who was automatically transfered from History to EAS when he applied for Japanese history. The questions were about "your English and background" - actually, that was words the Princeton Prof said when concluding the interview. "Classical questions", such as "why Princeton", "Have you read this book bla bla" were included, and I'm not sure how well I answered it. As an international applicant, I've heard the Grad schools in US are greatly concerned of the English abilities of their applicants, definitely not placing too much credit on the TOEFL score (GRE also? don't know, my GRE scores weren't that good, to be honest). So I guess the Prof. was really wanted to know how good my English was, and maybe that's why he just called me without any notification. Any other applicants to Princeton, with an interest in Chinese or Japanese history? Am I the only one here?
