  1. Got an invitation from the Unc social work school to the April welcome weekend about an hour ago. The email said that I should be getting an official acceptance email from the graduate school soon!? Of course I will need to wait to hear about any financial aid.
  2. I am considering appealing the financial aid decision from an MSW program that accepted me. This is a very expensive school to attend and I have heard they can be generous with aid. I received no financial aid with the exception of the usual government loans. I have a few questions: - Does anyone know how I would approach appealing need-based aid? The reason I am appealing this is because my husband's salary will be about $30,000 less this year (2013) than last year (2012). Both the school and FAFSA are looking at last year's numbers. I can prove this through his employer's pay stubs. Also, we have very high health costs in our family, and spend about $600 a month on visiting doctors (above and beyond the almost $450 we pay monthly on the premiums). We of course have itemized doctor's receipts for this. - I am also considering appealing the merit-based aid. Has anyone in the forum used another school's package as leverage to ask for more aid? I know that this particular school does the need-based and merit-based aid in separate offices. Should I include it in one letter to the financial aid office or send each office a separate letter? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you.
  3. Yep, waiting here too. My friend found out through email today that she didn't get in. I had a Jill Molee email today and it was about applying for financial aid (I guess everyone got that one?). Agh, I just want to know! Apparently we should all hear by "early March".
  4. Okay here is the thread from last year: I looked it over again and it looks like last year the deadline date was April 15th. And it sounds like most people did not hear about funding until after that date (although pretty soon after). Of course, it may be different for your case!
  5. Congratulations ljaffe & olathe! I am curious if you guys got any funding? You don't need to reveal actual amounts (unless you are okay with it). I am just wondering how generous they were with funding this year. Like I said, I did not receive any funding and am really struggling with justifying the cost of paying full tuition and living expenses (even though I love Smith!), especially because I applied to other schools, including a really good in-state msw program that would be half the tuition. Agh...decisions!
  6. I saw a thread about this from a year or two ago - I think I searched UNC social work OR msw in the social work forum to find it. Someone in that thread also mentioned having difficulty figuring out when the date is. I think they ended up finding out it is mid or late March. It was before the New Student Admitted Day (which I know is first week of April this year), and also before UNC sends out funding decisions. Actually it is very strange that UNC admits/rejects people and then doesn't send out funding until A LOT later. It would be easier if they sent it out all at once. And, even though you applied by the earlier deadline (Dec 11th I guess?), I think you will have the same deadline date as everyone else since UNC doesn't *officially* have an early decision/admission process. I also had a lot of trouble getting in touch with people at the UNC office. I ended up emailing and leaving voicemails for a few people -- including Sharon Thomas and Jill Molee. One of them eventually responded to my questions. I am curious --- how did they notify you? By postal mail or email?
  7. Got my letter today. Was accepted but with no money Not sure what I will do. Did anyone else hear yet?
  8. Agh, I was really hoping they would come this week! Waiting longer is tough...
  9. I am waiting! Hoping by Friday to receive something. So far haven't gotten anything today or yesterday. Please post when you receive something!
  10. Has anyone heard back from Smith MSW early admission? They say this is the week early admission applicants find out through regular mail.
