  1. >cath2024 Taking a year off isn't really in my option... I guess I'll have to borrow money from my parents and relatives and work my ass off during my two years at Columbia. And if I don't get into any PhD programs (with full funding) two years later, I'll have to give up and find a job.
  2. Thanks I hope you'll hear from them soon too!
  3. tidefan: Really? I didn't know that, thanks!! (I couldn't access the official article since I need to register, just saw the list off some other website.) Either way, am I right in assuming that MA program in Columbia would be a better choice for an academic career?
  4. I'm from Japan. A lot of things went wrong with my funding plan. The Japanese government postponed this year's annual scholarship grant due to political bickering over this year's budget, so no funding from the government (damn Prime Minister Aso...) Also, a private Japanese fellowship that I was planning to apply to suddenly changed its policy - now a student who has received a grant from the foundation before cannot apply again. This was a major blow since this foundation gave most money and what's more, the deadline for its application was the latest among the other private fellowships. In short, I'm still looking for fellowships given by Japanese institutions, but the prospects are bleak. That's why I'm looking for some good scholarships given by the US institutions.
  5. Which program should I choose, Columbia or Fletcher, if my goal after obtaining MA or MALD is to once again apply to the top US PhD programs in IR? I'm vacillating mainly because of the following two reasons. (1) I've read that at Fletcher, students can take graduate courses at Harvard (2) Fletcher ranks higher in the "Inside the Ivory Tower" Foreign Policy IR MA ranking in 2007, Fletcher being 4th and Columbia being 5th Internet is useful, but the information I can get in Japan is nevertheless limited. I would really appreciate all of your advice. Thanks!!
  6. I was rejected from all PhD programs, but barely managed to get into the MA only program. So... now what? The letter says no fellowships. I went to their Financial Aid Office website to find hundreds of outside fellowships. I've dug through many of them, only to find out that (1) the deadline has already passed, or (2) funding is only available to the PhD students. Being an international student, I really have no idea how scholarships and fellowships work in US graduate schools. I now get the feeling that students in MA programs generally have a hard time finding a scholarship. Does anyone know any good scholarships or websites with useful information for an international MA student? Is it possible for MA students to receive decent financing? I'm continuing my research on-line, but would appreciate any and every advice I could get. Thanks all!
  7. Just received the acceptance via email!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...phew.
  8. Euthyphro: Then I could be on the same boat as you, albeit you're on a better seat! I really do hope to get the decision soon even if it's a rejection. I've been waiting way too long, bad for my heart. On a side note... I applied to the same schools as you did too. Same mistake, aimed too high...
  9. Junebug62: Hmm... I've thought that it would be rude to call them up since it clearly says not to call before July 1, and I don't want to give them a bad impression... but I guess that is a possibility. All the more so since I'm applying from Tokyo... Thanks for the tip!
  10. I've just found this website so I may be misunderstanding something... but here are my questions. I have applied to and was rejected from the Ph.D program in Columbia. I then had my application transferred to the terminal master's program in Political Science. I have not received any decisions from the admission committee yet. On the Q&A's of the Columbia Poli Sci page (http://www.columbia.edu/cu/polisci/grad ... ssion.html), it states the following; "Decision notices are NOT given out over the phone or via e-mail. If you have not received a notification of admission or rejection by July 1, please contact the department then, but not before." So I still had my hopes up. When I used the "results search" on this website, however, I've found that many people have already been accepted, and that they have received their decisions "via E-mail." Am I right to assume that all the acceptance are by now sent out? And how is it that these people are receiving their decisions via e-mail despite what is being said on the website? Having denied admissions to all PhD programs, this is one of my last hopes (another, wait list on Fletcher, MALD). I would really appreciate your help guys!
