  1. I put my birth year down as 2007 in my application. That was dumb. Another reason to be paranoid...
  2. Has anyone heard from the admissions dept yet? I'm going crazy, was told they'd be notifying three weeks ago!
  3. Thank you for that. There's no mention of when a decision is due... I wish the admissions person hadn't told me to expect word two weeks ago! It's just cruel!
  4. Oooh, could someone please post the link to the admissions site, or PM it to me? Thanks!
  5. Could anyone who's had a reply from Duke please have a quick look at the email you were sent and tell me if it's a generic link to a site where you can look up your result, or if it's a personal one just for you? I deleted my spam folder (all 100+ messages) without thinking, and if it's a generic link I needn't make a fool of myself emailing the admissions people yet again
  6. I've googled, but your system seems even more complicated than ours! What's the tax situation for foreign students receiving funding from sources other than the university?
  7. Yeah, the fellowship is not awarded by the university, though. It's outside funding contingent on acceptance. The department and funding body are intertwined, and I know I'm just being paranoid, but I wish they'd send me the email already. I really can't email again 'til two weeks after they said they'd let me know, hey?
  8. I sent them an email week before last, and they said I should hear by the end of last week. I stayed up SO LATE on Thursday and Friday night, checking emails every hour and reached for the laptop first thing in the morning. I *know* that the chance of a rejection at this point is teensy tiny (already have nice fat fellowship awarded by a committee incl head of department) but I just want to have it all done and dusted. I'm caught between being really excited about moving and studying again, and freaking out that this might be the moment where everything falls apart. How common is it to have to wait weeks after they've told you you'll get word?
  9. Thanks for that thoughtful reply. I think we're starting to move towards a US-style model here -- Melbourne University has slashed the number of Bachelor's degrees and now requires 'breadth' courses...
  10. I'm starting an MA program in international affairs at a very competitive uni in the US, and (I know that this is impostor syndrome!) I'm concerned that it's going to be too much of a challenge for me. A few people have told me that UK and Australian Bachelor's degrees are more rigorous than those in the US, and that our Honours degrees in particular (final year is pure research, culminating in two 8000 word articles and a 17-20,000 word thesis) cover a lot of what would be postgrad level stuff over there. Does anyone feel qualified to tell me if this is in fact the case? If it were I'd feel much, much better. I'd have no qualms signing up for a similar program here (Australia), because I know the lie of the land. I'm probably just being paranoid, but I am terrified that I'll get there and everyone'll be lightyears ahead of me and the workload will give me a nervous breakdown!
