  1. Does that mean that people are posting fake interview invites on the results section on purpose? I didn't apply to UNC, but one of my schools popped up on there today. Though I'm not freaking out or sobbing right now, I can't help but to feel slightly disappointed (even though I know it's still too early to tell). I wished all schools would just tell us WHEN we will be contacted-whether it be rejection or acceptance or interviews. It will make this process a lot easier for everyone.
  2. This is probably not the best way, but something that's helping me with the wait is looking up bad things about your intended career The wait is much more bearable and rejection is much less of a blow if you can tell yourself, "I didn't want to go in the first place." So I look up umemployment rates, issues within the field, etc etc. For me, I applied to clinical psych programs, and knowing about the internship crisis, post-doc hours, lack of new jobs, long years, etc etc is making me want to consider a different career. Of course, I'm still waiting on the decisions and would be ecstatic to get accepted, but I think knowing "the other side" takes the acceptance off the pedestal knowing that every career has its cons. I don't necessary recommend this, but it's helping me at least.
  3. I honestly wouldn't make any facetious comments towards how beautiful the girls are, or their mascara. As a woman myself working in a lab and has been subjected to those type of biases/comments, it is very offensive no matter how you put it. Don't give them the chance to feel like you are belittling their accomplishments just because they are good looking. I think that if they have had any type of experiences with uncomfortable comments by members of the lab (or by their male PI), they will probably show it in their language, demeanor, or otherwise. While lewin00 is joking, I do think that it is true that prettier people are viewed more positively most of the time. After interviewing dozens of undergrads as an RA, I find myself subjected to this bias even if I don't want to. I also don't think it is by coincidence that the two male grad students in my lab are better than average looking, tall, and well-composed. It is what it is.
