  1. Just wondering who to ask for a reference. The school I'm applying for is asking for three. I've been out of school for 2 years and had a very inter-disciplinary degree which means I took a lot of courses from many departments and did not have close connections with any professors. Any suggestions?
  2. What I don't understand is why people worry about status markers or attending highly prestige schools when it comes to social work? It seems like the same institutional bias and unnecessary social ranking (who you know, what other places you attended) is part of why we need social work in the first place. I just don't understand choosing school for anything other than concentration as most of the leaning will come from direct field practicum.
  3. Hello, I'm interested in applying to MSW programs. It's been 5 years since I've graduated with my BA (Cultural Anthropology). I have been working in retail ever since. I have zero volunteer/ social service experience. I grew up very poor and was the first person in my family to attend/graduate college. I worked full time in college and it honestly never occured to me to volunteer anywhere. There really isn't a particular section of humans I prefer working with. I just want to do whatever I can to empower others and fight against poverty. I feel like not only obligated but almost like I'm being called to do something more meaningful in my life. Would anyone like to give me some advice? How would I get started in the "helping profession?"
