  1. Officially decided to accept Harvard's admissions offer. Good luck to the rest of you!
  2. I think it rests on a lot of different factors. In terms of budget, it really depends on which California school we are talking about. UCSF, for example, relies very little on state funding for its yearly budget, despite being a "public" school. Arguably, the east coast is "better" in the sense that there are more big named private schools with a huge focus on research and consistent NIH funding. In terms of research, it also depends on what you want to study. It's arguable that computational neuroscience is really the future; if that is indeed the case, than the east coast is also a better fit as most programs here have a heavier emphasis on computation. Fundamentally though, at our stage, I think we should just focus on which PIs we want to work with.
  3. I hope you don't think medical school has an easier application process than PhD programs. It is, if anything, significantly harder. Maybe you were just a bad "fit" for the programs that you applied to and interviewed at. However, feeling "betrayed" by the system is just childish. Everyone has to play the same game.
  4. Anyone heading to UCSF this coming weekend?
  5. Congrats! Just heard back from them as well!
  6. After you experience a few interviews, you realize that 30 minutes flies by crazy fast- you'll most likely only have time to talk about your research and discuss why you want to attend the school. There won't be time for many questions directed towards the professor.
  7. We will know by this Friday, according to Karen (if not Friday, then early next week). And it was a pleasure meeting some of you guys at Boston!
  8. Got an email from UPenn with an acceptance offer! I am ecstatic!
  9. Anyone heading up to Boston this coming weekend?
  10. In my experience so far, California schools typically book the tickets for us.
  11. I'll be arrive at around 4:30pm, and will be attending the dinner as well. Has UPenn emailed you your list of interviewers yet?
  12. Just got an interview request from UC: San Diego That's all the schools I applied to.
  13. Btw, congrats on the Stanford invite! I'm going to assume Stanford interview invitations have been all sent out? I'll keep hoping till the end of this week. But, it's looking sad face
  14. I am! When are you gonna be heading over to the hotel on Thursday?
  15. What are you guys planning to wear during your interview sessions? All my emails say that the weekend is "casual", but I'm still planning on going at least "business casual" for the actual interviews.
  16. That's what I thought, but I noticed even within a program, a program will contact people differently.
  17. Browsing the "results" page and comments from other people, it seems some programs will call people or email them. I've been wondering what determines if they will call or email you for interview requests?
  18. According to the "results search" tab- it seems that Brown has sent out their invitation requests already.
  19. Thanks! My email did not mention whether or not the interview requests would be sent out all at the same time or over the course of the next few weeks.
  20. Heard back from UCLA- invitation for Feb. 9-11, 2013.
  21. Based off this site (http://graduate-school.phds.org/rankings/neuroscience/program/ranking/ucla/88) UCLA has around 13 spots available. I personally have not heard anything from UCLA or Stanford yet.
  22. Agreed. I would love the opportunity to interview with them.
  23. Ah, some responses, but nothing more than a polite statement of excitement to meeting me during the interview weekend.
  24. Hmm, I am curious- did anyone else email professors of interest directly after you got your interview invitation?
  25. I noticed that someone posted that they got an interview request from UPenn recently- so I guess UPenn isn't done sending out their invites yet.
