Need your opinions!! I just got an email from a professor whom I had a conversation with during the interview weekend (not an official interview but I requested him for a short meeting because he was one of my top choices but I didn't get a chance to interview with him. Anyway the conversation went quite well and we happened to talk for almost two hours). I just got accepted into the school and he sent me an email with congratulation and saying that he enjoyed talking with me and look forward to seeing me if I choose to attend the school. Is this a good sign that he is really interested in me? Or is this just a routine, formal email that every student gets after being accepted into school? How should I reply to his email?

@stmwap, Thanks a lot! Your interview was definitely not what I (and most of us?) would expect to hear about...To be honest, I must've been quite disappointed if my first interview were like that (no offense!!) Anyway, congrats to your first interview and best luck with the rest I will also share my stories after I come back from mine next week.

@ ion_exchanger, banksy- Thanks!! I was asked that question in a skype interview(which is my only interview so far) and had to ask back the interviewer what she wanted to know. I was only prepared to talk about my research and nothing of that kind. It just freaked me out and I don't remember what I did for the whole 30-min...I might have to write down a paragraph about it

Question about an interview... What's your answer to this question: tell me about yourself? I know they are asking something different than your previous research but what then??

Can anyone help me arrange transportation for the interview? I'm doing it through school's travel agency and they recommend me to take a train rather than a flight. I've never taken a train in the US and have no idea what I should choose

I got an email from a professor that I will be soon contacted by admissions office about the details of the interview. No exact date though.

Really hope that I can get it too Interview dates are already posted on their website: Invitations to interview for the fall 2013 application cycle will be sent mid-January. Our recruitment event will take place between February 27, 2013 thru March 1, 2013. Interviews will be scheduled on Wednesday, Feb 27 and Friday, March 1. I don't understand why Stanford and UCSD have exactly the same interview dates.

@ryancho, Thanks and congrats to you too I think you should definitely go for Caltech and ask WashU for another date or a skype interview. I am sure there's a risk because you would give impression that WashU is not your top choice and they might not agree to give you an opportunity for the interview. But you will choose Caltech anyway even if you are accepted to both schools. Think on the bright side!
