  1. Is anybody else visiting Northwestern next weekend? Which professors did you choose to meet with?
  2. That's true...UIUC has a very well known program though.
  3. Probably the same three as well as Professors Weaver and Kriven...the latter actually emailed me about working with ferromagnetics/multiferroics. My interests are in photonic and/or electromagnetic properties of nano/low-d materials. UIUC has a good deal of the latter, but not so much of the former, which is why I'm leaning towards my other schools at the moment, though I think research group chemistry is probably more important to me than the specific area--there's still plenty of time to branch out!
  4. I won't be, though I might stop by when I visit Northwestern. Which professors are you meeting with?
  5. I probably won't until right up before the deadline since Yale's visitor's weekend is April 5-6. Wish I could know earlier, but that's just how things turn out. Oh well, it gives the schools I haven't heard from time to surprise me with a wonderful offer. edit: Congrats everyone, we've made this a "HOT" topic!
  6. Had two separate dreams last night; in one I was accepted to the school, in the other I was rejected. >.<

Woke up this morning, no decision. :P

  7. UIUC rejects being sent out...Condolences to everyone who didn't get in. Whole idea of admissions seems stupid sometimes, but I guess they have limited spots. It's humbling to see even though I was fortunate enough to be accepted. Fingers crossed for everyone who hasn't heard from their dream schools
  8. Happy V-day everyone :)

      to you as well.

  9. nobody's heard anything yet according to the results section. good luck
  10. You should check the results listings: http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=purdue+material* Looks like there was one acceptance and one rejection listed so far this year
  11. you're welcome wasn't expecting much after initially being passed over, I guess that's what I get for coming from a no-name undergrad. fingers crossed for harvard
  12. Probably because they accept a few people who they know they're going to take, then reject applicants who are a clearly bad fit or don't have great credentials, then pore over the remaining applications that are neither. Just a guess
  13. Obviously, funding is good and if you want a PhD then you should go to Princeton, obviously you're very good so if you applied to PhD programs after getting a MS you would probably get in where you wanted, but it can be harder to get into top PhD programs if you already have a MS...they might wonder why you didn't just go for a PhD and so forth, and they might want you to take additional classes. My advice: visit. Maybe you'll like one of the departments better. Also, congrats!
  14. I might be there yale's physics is the same weekend so we'll have to see. Man, flights are expensive
  15. Nope, no letter in mail though a scan of it did come with the email. Then again I live pretty far away and it's having to go through school mail so who knows when it'll come.
  16. Got the email as well. I guess I'll go check my mail. Financial package looks pretty good considering living costs @ NU.
  17. Logged in to grad status, said an admissions decision has been rendered. Told to login to applyyourself, and letter was there. If you haven't heard yet, it might just be because they're still updating them today? Very generic, but I'm excited!
  18. ^this. Just in terms of rankings, I think OSU is the most prestigious of the three..I know they have some very good researchers over there though I'm not familiar with their atmospheric physics research. If it's in the same dept. there's always a chance you could do a lab rotation and see if you're more interested in something else, though again I'm not that familiar with the program. That might be the case at all schools, or they might want you to find a lab ASAP. Congrats on the acceptances!
  19. Thank you so much! Never imagined this would happen in my wildest dreams..didn't even think I'd get an interview to be honest Hopefully it helps with admits as well
  20. Very possibly an undergrad at mit, caltech, or some other school that is notorious for grading hard. Maybe not though I got passed over the first round I guess, but I'm not that bummed about it thankfully. Probably don't like me because I'm not from a well-known undergrad But I'm still hopeful. I'd settle for harvard
  21. My friend had the same question! (well, except the MatSE part). I doubt it because it's for PhD in engineering so you probably won't be taking on student loans. I don't know the answer for sure, but I'm not planning on filling it out.
  22. lol...when you enter a decision, it sometimes defaults to the next day (probably UT).
  23. It's definitely going to be a stretch to completely change your course--as ChemPhys said, your best bet is to probably just getting a B.S. If you're willing to consider a more hybrid approach and you're interested in it, you might be able to apply to history/philosophy of science programs such as http://www.princeton.edu/hos/
