  1. Does anyone have a link to information regarding IRB / Human Subjects Protocol research for Fulbright Scholars doing fieldwork?
  2. microeconomics of women's collectives. mathematics of population growth ie birthing of children. history and culture of healthcare ie foucault.
  3. women and children. healthcare.
  4. A friend of mine pushed her Morocco Fulbright back to January, but it was for a job. So it's possible, but I think they're reviewed on a case by case basis.
  5. You can find lots of information on the orientation here: http://fulbright.state.gov/orientation/af-nea-sca I would register now. The commission should send you an email soon telling you to register anyhow and how to buy your plane ticket. Congrats! See you in DC.
  6. ????? ????!! Jordan CLEA recipients received email notification (I got the email before the manila envelope...). Maybe Egypt does this the same way. See you in DC!
  7. Did anyone receive information about traveling to the briefing in DC, about how much money you will receive, about insurance, and about everything else BEFORE you turned in your medical clearance form? I am going to the doctor on Thursday and am hoping I will be receiving more information on my grant before they receive my medical clearance. I am wondering when I can start making travel arrangements. Thanks in advance.
  8. I received an email from my CLEA administrator (representing Jordan) a few days before I received my acceptance letter in the snail mail. The email indicated I had been selected as a Principal for the CLEA grant (my scholarship adviser here at school told me not all Fulbrighters headed to CLEA-sponsored countries are offered these additional language study grants). She asked us to fill out a timeline and budget for studies based on tuition prices she provided to us in her email. The budget form seemed to be a mere formality. Basically, CLEA needs to know how many months you would like to study (with four or six months being Jordan's only options). I will be doing six months at the Qasid institute, inshallah. What language will you be studying and where? Congrats!
  9. Principal candidate. Jordan, here I come! alhumdullilah mashallah mashallah. (West coast here.)
  10. Today I got an email saying Jermaine Jones would send out Jordan letters this week.
  11. FYI - Jordan letters will go out this Thursday.
  12. I don't think so. My friend heard back from Morocco over a month ago.
  13. Today I got word from my Fulbright adviser that Jordan applications have made it to New York. This, however, does not necessarily mean we will know within any given amount of time. Could still take weeks. She mentioned that applications to the Middle East generally take longer to be approved by the State Department than those for other countries. Background checks, etc., to make sure we're not an enemy of the state
  14. Just found the latest stats for 2008-2009: http://chronicle.com/weekly/v55/i09/09a02301.htm#top
  15. Wow this is great info. It lead me to this page: http://us.fulbrightonline.org/news_story.php?id=74 which links to stats for other types of "Carnegie Classifications" (this type of classification is news to me). I fall under the category of an applicant from a "research institution" : http://us.fulbrightonline.org/documents/research.pdf Thanks so much!!
  16. i want to apologize -- right after submitting i realized how very unfair my statement about harvard is. i do not mean to stereotype the institution or the people who studied there. i obviously realize harvard produces many upstanding scholars and citizens. fulbrightest is just a bad apple, and bad apples can fall (rotten and worm infested) from any tree.
  17. you are such a jerk. thank god i don't go to harvard -- look at the monsters it produces. this board is supposed to be supportive and informative, but you're transforming it into your own ego-stroking and sadistic playground. any news from jordan?
  18. How much do you think where you did your undergrad matters in the final decision? All other factors are equal, do you think one graduating from a 'top five' ranked school has a better chance?
  19. My university had ~80 applicants, and I've been told that every applicant was passed on to the national round. Each of us was interviewed by a committee consisting of faculty members familiar with the topic / region of the proposal, and was ranked on a scale from 1-5 (with .5 increments) before being passed on. Additionally, the interview committee provided a write-up explaining an applicant's strengths and weaknesses as gleaned from the interview. I don't know if other schools reject applicants before the national round, but mine does not. Hope this helps.
  20. inshallah -- still waiting to hear back.
  21. oops, wrote that last post quickly between classes. let's try again, this time with fewer grammatical / usage errors. ?????! ????? ?????? ??. ??????? ??? ????? ??? ?????? ?????. ??? ???? ?? ???? ?? ???? ???????? ????????? ?? ????? ?????? ????? ????? ?????? ? ??? ? ??? ??????? ? ????????? ?????? ??????? ???? ???. ??????? ???? ????? ????? ??????? ?? ???? ???? ?? ????. ??? ????? ????????

  23. That's my project exactly! I want to ask you more questions, but I don't think they're of any use except to compare my project to yours and judge them myself, which is silly. Good luck to us!
  24. Ahhhh Arab Time! I knew it would take forrrrever. My proposal is for anthropology research regarding refugees in Amman. I've studied Arabic for four years and lived in the ME for a year, but I've never been to Jordan. What is your proposal, and what is your Arabic language experience? Any other info you'd care to disclose? I can share that apparently our letters of affiliation do not factor into the decision making process for finalists. It's more of a screening process for the national round. Also, the orientation would be 23-27 June in DC, and 6-10 Sept in Amman @ the Fulbright House. Further, our campus interview reports numerically ranked us (not against other applicants, but according to a rubric), and I hear that the national committee ranks us (against other applicants -- anyone else care to confirm this?) by order of preference for all those recommended to a specific country, and that the in-country selection committee usually takes these rankings from the national committee into strong consideration when making their final decisions. After that, the in-country selections must be approved by the State Department. If anyone has heard otherwise, please correct me. Cheers.
  25. hey all, i just found this list. so sick of waiting, so i thought i'd join the obsession, because, hey, we need to procrastinate honors theses and final classes anyway, right? finalist to jordan for a research grant. the program officer at the binational commission in jordan told me early april we would know by the last week of april. they also said then that our applications were still with the selection committee. i was told we would not be emailed. writing in to hear if anyone else applying to jordan (or to any other countries in the region) has heard back yet, or if they have pestered iie representatives to learn more specifically when our letters will go out. posting from Bay Area, CA. congrats to those already accepted. cheers.
