  1. Ohhh wow! U got into some of the top Universities! Lucky U. Congrats! By the way If you get a chance to visit Texas A & M then please do share your experience with me. I am a bit confused in choosing a grad school. Your advice might be of a lot of help to me. Thank You.
  2. What you have said is quite understandable. Prestige and ranking might not be everything out there. Being an international student I can not afford to visit the University during its visitation weeks. How should I choose a University in such situation? What if I target a group but after joining the University I am told that my specific professor wont be accepting any new students. I have received acceptance emails from department rather then from the professors I targeted. My question might sound weird but I am confused in making a decision because it is a matter of NEXT 5-7 YEARS!
  3. You have raised a very good point which I think most of the students face while making their decision i.e. THE BRAND NAME! Wanted to ask whether ranking of a University is the most important feature of choosing a University? Also how do u compare ranking of Universities while making such a decision?
  4. To which field in chemistry did you applied to at Texas A & M? Also may I ask which other Universities you are considering? Thank You.
  5. Ohh I am sorry! I thought maybe the visiting weeks have passed. If you or anyone you happen to visit TAMU then do share your experience. Thank You.
  6. Guys since most of you have finalized their decisions or are about to make their decisions so which among you are going to attend Texas A & M?
  7. Guys has anyone of you Texas A & M? What are your views about its chemistry department? Also, if anyone has visited both Texas Universities i.e. Texas and A & M. What difference you found in the location and the overall University?
  8. I couldn't understand you point clearly. do u mean that more or less the percentiles will be the same as on the workbook? For example instead of 80 percentile starting from 95-96 it can start from 93-94 or from 92-91? Am I right? The sources you included were quiet helpful but is it possible to to know the number of questions which guarantees these percentiles?
  9. Does ETS use the same percentile system as mentioned in the workbook which they sent us in calculating percentiles of actual test or is it different. For example 80 percentile starts at 95-96 questions in the work does this mean in the actual test the same scale is used for calculating the percentile?
  10. What I have heard is that taking an admission in Master's is much more difficult than taking admission in PhD. Most of the Universities prefer PhD students over masters one. Also, funding is also an obstacle in Master's program. I have heard that it is very difficult to find a fully funded Master's program. I don't know if its true or not but could you please elaborate on this point.
  11. Sorry, I might have confused with my previous post. I want to know is that should I apply to top tier University with this score or aim for some low ranking because I have heard that top tier Universities gives a lot of emphasis on GPA and GRE General. I have an average GPA but a bad GRE General. I might be able to score decent on GRE subject as well as on TOEFL. I want to know the ranking range on Universities in which I should apply keeping in mind my GREs and other stuff.
  12. I took GRE twice with in past 6 months but have not achieved any drastic change in my score. My scores in both sections on both occasions in Verbal and Quantitative was between 150 and 155. I am afraid that my scores will be a major obstacle in gaining admission in Chemistry in top ranked Universities. Even though I was well prepared on both occasion but still I couldn't get a decent score. I fear that I am not competent enough to pursue Graduate Studies. I could not do well on a simple test, how could I even imagine of getting an admission in any top tier University. I am feeling so lost and dejected at the moment.
  13. I have another question. Hope you don't mind. Which book would you recommend I should study from considering I have barely touched Inorganic Chemistry during my undergraduate years!
  14. Hello all, Can anyone please tell me what topics to prepare from Analytical Chemsitry for GRE? I have consulted the syllabus which is mentioned in ETS Chemsitry Practice Book but its too vague. It would be wonderful if someone could elaborate the topics which one should study. Thanks in advance.
