I did, and it has been great. If anything, it has made the program even more appealing to me, since everyone I've interacted with there has been so kind, helpful, and supportive. Also, it is nice to talk with a current student since it takes the pressure off of being so formal and careful as you would with a professor who has a stake in the admissions process.
I applied to 5 programs in my field. I was recently contacted by a current PhD student at one to see if I had any questions about the program/application process (the application due date was a couple of weeks ago). I've taken that as a good sign, and I'm staying optimistic since it's one of my top choices. Social science programs seem to notify much later than the hard sciences, but I am hoping I'll hear something more concrete soon. Best of luck to you all
