  1. I wrote an email, short and sweet, stating that I applied to their PhD program and would like to know if the department has notified applicants regarding admissions decisions.
  2. still waiting to hear anything from minnesota. i think next week can be considered "late" as far as classics admissions, so i'm going to email them then.
  3. So frustrated. I've got an offer that I want to accept, but I feel weird about committing until I get final word from Minnesota. Nobody has posted anything about Minn which makes me think they've still not notified. I want it all to be over. NOW. Anyone hear anything about Minnesota? If I hear they've notified, then I'm accepting my offer asap.
  4. Thanks for the info. I"m getting a bit depressed about my UCSB funding prospects. I want to be there quite badly. I wonder how difficult it is to get California residency.
  5. I assume UCSB will announce funding decisions in the next week and a half or so. Would those who have been accepted to UCSB mind posting when they've received information?
  6. Congratulations, meri! It's definitely nice to have an acceptance. Thanks for your reply, palimpsest. That really clarifies things for me. I wonder why UCSB would accept more students than they could fund. I mean, most departments just don't, and it's even more surprising that a school with $24,000/yr out of state tuition and such a high cost of living would even extend an offer for admission without funding information. I wonder if there's a bias with MA vs. PhD funding. I would assume they would invest in their PhD students, but who knows. How can anyone even pay their own way? You can't borrow that much money. Heiress Classics majors, maybe? :|
  7. questions for the people who have been accepted to ucsb: 1) has anyone received information directly from the department (other than website notification)? 2) has anyone been offered funding for the program? i was under the impression that funding decisions would be made in march, but someone posted on yuster that they were accepted at the end of january with a funding offer. i'm wondering if it's possible that that was a mistype, or if that is university vs. departmental funding.
  8. it seems that ucla has notifed. that's another one checked off my list. not too surprising i wasn't accepted. i only applied because my prof said i needed 5 schools. but now that only leaves minnesota to hear from. wow, it's about over for me. hope ucsb makes funding decisions soon. from the letter i got, it appears they'll be doing that in early march. a bit nervous since i've heard iffy things about ucsb funding in the past. hopeful.
  9. Congratulations! MA or PhD?
  10. Hooray. After getting dumped this afternoon by my top choice school, I was just accepted by my second choice school - Santa Barbara. A nice end to what started as a crappy day.
  11. after making through two rounds of rejections, i was finally rejected from duke today. shoot me now. i don't want any more emails.
  12. It's been really quiet recently...but I predict notifications by next Friday (Feb 22nd). Only got one rejection so far...Wisconsin.
  13. It seems that two waves of rejections have gone out from Duke Classics. Has anyone been accepted to the program?
  14. Thanks, Sidereal. Duke's my #1 choice, and it's nice to think I may be short-listed. Already rejected by one school. Wisconsin. It seems kind of odd that so many programs have decisions going out already. I was told by other grad students and profs not to expect anything until the end of February. Rejections in January are harsh. I needed more time to prepare myself.
  15. Sidereal, how did you get contacted by Duke? I have still heard nothing from them at all. As far as I can tell, there's no place to check application status on the application page.
