  1. Mphil in Electrical Engineering here! Anybody else out there?
  2. My case is a bit differnt too - i'll be starting early in the first week of July, and uni accomodation itself might be a bit tricky - it's in between transitions! My fresher's welcome will be in September and ironically, I'll already be 3 months old in the Uni by then Visa preparations on, lots of shopping planned just for clothes - others I'm just going to go there and buy!
  3. I've decided to stay at the university accomodation at least in the beginning...I'm going for en suite self catered single occupancy rooms. I'm going to Manchester so it'll be pretty darn cold. I'll need to use the room heater extensively and it'll pipe up the power bill, hence better go where all utilities are covered! Now I'll need to shop for thermal wear, snow boots, cloaks and jackets and stuff!!!
  4. I'm going to be living in a place where temperatures go to -15 degree celcius!! And I currently live in a place where it reaches a scorching 50!! It's gonna be one hell of a change!
  5. I seriously want to downsize, but then I have so many things which I don't think I can let go of I don't want to end up carrying 3 trunks of junk
  6. A question...how do you hunt for apartments when you're in another country? How reliable is the internet? Or is it better to go there, stay temporarily at a hotel or something and then look for apartments?
  7. The apartment hunting is on here too Calculating utility costs to see if it fits under my budget
  8. I'm moving to the UK from totally different country in Asia, and here's what I'm upto: 1. Finding studio apartments online under my required budget 2. Reading up all about the place and dreaming how uber-cool it's going to be! 3. Planning trips to all surrounding countries, checking the airfare oh, and also planning a trip to Orlando, Florida to visit universal studios and Disneyworld 4. Calculating my expenses and seeing how much I'll be able to save up from my living allowance 5. Looking at AWESOME laptops and other gadgets and planning to buy them
  9. After being accepted, I'm pretty much sure everyone gets all hyped up about travelling to a new place, especially if it's another country! Planning what to do after getting there, looking up nearby places to holiday and hike are all just the beginning of things! Then there's buying all the stuff - new clothes, getting suites stitched, electronics, etc. So what are you planning, looking forward to, and/or have already done?
  10. Oh I sent an email phrased like a request for more funding, but ended up writing a regret instead
  11. Working at my company till a week before I leave It's pretty damn boring to sit at home doing nothing and I'll be anyway travelling to Switzerland on my way to the uni
  12. Thanks teagirl! I considered asking for some extra fellowship but dismissed it considering the financial current situation in the US..
  13. I have 2 offers in hand - one from NYU Poly for their MS in electrical engineering program and another for Mphil in electrical engineering program at the university of Manchester, UK. The first offer comes with a partial funding of $20000 for 2 years and the latter (a one year pure research course) comes with a funding of £30000 (tuition plus a stipend of £14000) for a year. My aim is to complete a PhD. Which offer do I go for??? My mind says Mphil cause it sounds very interesting. Also, I will be working with one of the great minds of the field! On the other hand, NYU is one of the top institutes for a masters in electrical program. However, living in Brooklyn will be shit expensive, over which I'll also have to pay some tuition of nearly $10000!
