Hello, I had some questions about Canadian Universities (specifically for ECE)... I'm actually a Canadian, and have attended a Canadian university for my BS and MS in ECE. I have been admitted to both McGill and U of T... But how do these universities compare to schools (PhD in ECE) in the US like UMich-AA, Carnegie Mellon, UIUC, UT-Austin, Cornell? (ive been admitted to most of these too) Apparently U of T ECE dept ranks in the top 10 for ECE in north america, but as far as reputation, I dont think they match up with these US schools. Funding is also quite difficult to obtain... the only way I would manage at a Canadian institution is by having a national research fellowship.. Any comments would be appreciated..Thanks!

Just received acceptances (+ aid) to Cornell and UTexas-Austin... hmm I guess it is still possible to hear positive responses!

Hi everyone, I have pretty much received all of my PhD application decisions now, with the following acceptances: UMich (VLSI) - aid possibly coming soon Carnegie Mellon (VLSI design and computer architecture) - full fellowship UCLA (Highspeed VLSI) - full fellowship Cornell (Comp. Arch and VLSI) - not sure about aid. U. of Toronto (Low Power VLSI) - full scholarship So now I have to make the decision! I have visited UMich and CMU already.....I think i like CMU better (structure of the program, people, etc). Should I make my decision based on rankings? If that is the case CMU might be the best choice.....but UMich is quite better for engineering in general.. Any advice would greatly be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I was just wondering... What other schools have you applied to? Other than Caltech, are there any others which have not yet sent anything?

I have not heard anything either... ridiculous. I will call tomorrow and see what the hell is going on with my app. I dont understand why they can;t update us with any info. Like if i have already been denied, send me something at least...or like you said, if groups aren't admitting anyone, at least let us know. And I am still not sure what is going on with MIT or UIUC. I have got some decent admits already, but I wish these other schools could at least tell me something about what's going on... It is so late already.

I still have not heard from Caltech either.....or UIUC! Not sure what is going on.
