  1. FYI Germany ETA applicants -- just e-mailed Cara and we do not have to do the additional application with the PAD: "The requirements for the ETA to Germany have changed. We only need you to submit your top three preferences for Bundesland placement, of [sic] you have a preference." So there you go, in case you are like me and were beginning to wonder if you should have received something additional by now
  2. That's interesting -- I haven't heard anything since Cara e-mailed us a few weeks ago asking us to select our top 3 Bundesländer, so maybe I'll check on that with her tomorrow. The Bundesländer selection was all online, so it does sound like they're changing some aspects of the application process from last year.
  3. Hamburg, Marburg oder in der Nähe von Göttingen. Leider ist diese nur eine kurze reise (29. März bis 7. April); ich besuche meinen Freund.
  4. Based on the spreadsheets, it looks like I'll probably be in Germany when they release the ETA selections... I suppose that's probably for the best; I can head to the nearest Kneipe and either celebrate or drown my sorrows in a nice Hefeweizen
  5. I find your FPA's claims suspect, especially in the context of the e-mail we received today. I see no reason for the Fulbright folks to be very explicit about something not affecting your chances and then secretly factor it in... Perhaps my faith in people is too high, but that seems like rather sheisty, un-Fulbright-like behavior.
  6. Not certain, but I'm thinking Hessen (studied abroad in Marburg), Niedersachsen (my boyfriend is from there/I'm familiar with it) and Hamburg (will visit for the first time in April, but I think it's a city I'd really like?). What about you?
  7. Have heard that as well. I just want to get all this as soon as possible because I'm going to be traveling a lot in February (four states in two weeks!) and won't have a lot of time =\ Although I did just get the email asking me to list my preference for Bundesländer so hopefully everything is coming soon
  8. Glamor isn't everything... I think the Peace Corps is a wonderful opportunity and something that I personally hold in just as high esteem. Congrats on that, and good luck!
  9. Very sound advice. Further -- yes, ordinarily leaving a job after only a year doesn't necessarily reflect well on you, but I think there's something to be said for the particular reason you would have for WHY you left the job so soon. I can't claim to know a lot about your field, MMcKay, but I would think your reasons for leaving so soon would speak for themselves. A Fulbright is a special and unique opportunity that not many people receive. The fact that you prioritized a grant over an employment position would not suggest you exercised poor judgment, in my opinion.
  10. For Germany ETA folks -- I know there will be more we have to fill out and send in; does anyone have an idea when we'll get that paperwork?
  11. Got my formal recommendation; Germany ETA!
  12. Uggh, I know. Scheduling my interview in the fall was a pain, because of course the committee would only meet during a weekday for normal business hours, and at the time I wasn't able to take vacation (plus, it's probably bad form to miss work to interview for something that, if you got it, would force you to immediately leave your job ). I had to go to my meetings in the morning and then pretend I very suddenly got sick in the afternoon haha.
  13. So I politely pestered my FPA today and basically confirmed that I was recommended which is exciting (!!!) but I want the damn email already to feel like it's official! And for the record I'm in the same boat as those who haven't spoken with their FPA since October. Hard to keep in touch when I'm working full time in another city...
  14. Dying. Longest/least productive day of work ever .
  15. I do not have enough phone battery for this kind of waiting/obsessive email checking. #firstworldfulbrightptoblems
  16. Flight landed, emails/forum checked... Nothing. Shucks. I have another flight in about an hour, hopefully something happens after that one??
  17. Hi all! Eta applicant for Germany here! My flight is about to take off, sure would be nice to have some news to read when I turn my phone back on in an hour and a half
