  1. Really hoping there's still a BU acceptance in my future. So far, I just have a waitlist at Maryland.
  2. I wish I hadn't applied to a few schools where my chances were remarkably low (e.g. USC, MIT). I also wish I had applied to UConn and maybe UC Davis.
  3. They rejected some people on Feb 19.
  4. Can anyone claim the UCSB admit? I'd really like to know what's going on there. My application still says 'submitted.' Not sure what to reasonably expect at this point.
  5. CUNY accepted someone. Honestly, this will be the one that hurts the most. That's my dream department.
  6. Kelizabeth: Can't see how it could hurt. That seems to be an important change to your application. And congratulations!
  7. Agreed, kelizabeth. This is the worst.
  8. The Maryland acceptances make it sound like personal acceptances. So there could still be hope!
  9. Well, I was assuming a rejection because of the acceptances. Maybe I spoke too soon. And you're probably right about the emails; I think I've been letting my anxiety get the best of my judgment.
  10. Mine says 'Under Review.' With implied rejections from Cornell, USC, and Toronto in the last two days, my large list of 13 schools has been reduced to a more meager 7. Anyone who applied to UCSB: I received a solicited email from them stating that I would hear about their decision 'in the next two months.' Yes, two months. Still waiting for Maryland, Boston University, UMass Amherst, UCSB, Ohio, Brandeis, and CUNY.
  11. CUNY is apparently in the final round of decisions according to a new result posting. Good luck to everyone who applied!
  12. Also, anyone heard anything else from UCSB? Still nothing for me, and they started sending rejections days ago! I emailed Alicia Baker, whose contact information is listed on the site, a few days ago but she has not responded. That struck me as odd because in January she and I were in correspondence over my university's mishandling of my transcripts, and she always responded within a few hours.
  13. Same boat as you regarding rejection (or lack thereof, I suppose). My main application is available, but my ASF sends me to an error/unavailable screen. Maybe a good sign? Though there really is no data to decide if it's good or bad.
  14. Hold on, I'm confused: what did you share that makes you a downer?
  15. I checked my status on the website. It still says 'submitted.' In addition to the stress of applications, these kinds of situations just serve to confuse me.
  16. Now the University of Maryland, College Park is rejecting people, but no word yet for me. It may be the case that it's a similar situation to what I believe is going on with Santa Barbara, though this process has taught me that even cautious optimism isn't warranted.
  17. Looks like MIT is accepting via phone. Haven't gotten a call, and I'm not really expecting one. That was my longshot school, anyway.
  18. I hated being the one to email (I emailed Duke as well, which is how I found out about my rejection), but the stress and anxiety have really been getting to me during this process. Uncertainty is not my friend.
  19. There's a decent chance I'd do the MA. In my case, I'd do the MA at Brandeis over a place like BU. BU is a good program, but Brandeis places at a higher level. MA programs can be tricky. My undergraduate institution has a Leiter-mentioned MA program, and the placement record of the MA students is decidedly mixed. Some don't get in at all. Now, I really, really like the program at UCSB. Even though they rank at 40, I'd probably go to UCSB. I have near identical interests with the faculty, and the funding seems nice. Honestly, right now all I'm thinking about is getting even one acceptance. I'd probably kill for one (ethics be damned!).
  20. Could people who got rejected by UCSB clarify if it was a form email or a personal one? I only ask because, if it was a form letter, there is a likelihood they were all sent at once. If that's the case, I've got some hope of being accepted. If they're personal rejections, it could just be a matter of time. And yes, I'll admit I'm trying to draw inferences from terrible data. But this is a stressful time for all of us, so I'll take any sliver of consolation I can get.
  21. I'm the one who got rejected by Miami. I emailed the department, as I thought I had a good shot at the school (my advisor got his PhD there, plus I've met some of the department at talks and such). I just asked when people could expect rejections and acceptances, and Peter Lewis broke the news to me. Re: UCSB. Looks like they reject before they accept (at least some years). I've got my fingers crossed. I've been rejected from the first two schools I've heard from. EDIT: I should note that Lewis told me Miami had less than a 10% admissions rate.
  22. Emailed the DGS from Duke. Found out I was rejected, though she didn't say that anyone who hasn't heard is rejected. My intuition leans toward that, though.
  23. I think that it's possible Marcus influenced Kripke, but 1) it's not certain and 2) it would be an influence, not an instance of simply copying her idea.
  24. Well, I saw a talk at this past APA Eastern about Marcus's view of reference, and it's actually a bit different than Kripke's, so I don't think he's guilty of the radical kind of plagiarism people accuse him of.
  25. Very much so. Writing sample was a critique of Kripke on reference failure/pretense.
