  1. to 17thscream--i don't think you need to worry about "the name thing" at all. bryn mawr is well known and well respected in art history & archaeology. a wonderful professor i know did her undergrad work there and loved it.
  2. chicken dan, good and bad things about NYU..? do share. i'm deciding as well. thanks!
  3. mew27's anecdote is very interesting. i didn't know they still did that these days. it sounds so... 50s! now i'm wondering if the same thing happened to me...
  4. ana20, i agree with the above comments. are you guaranteed funding after your first year at IFA? also, my professor got her phd at IFA, and she said that it can be a competitive place due to funding issues.
  5. columbia's decisions are out... finally
  6. is anybody still waiting on columbia? i've gotten responses from everywhere except columbia. at this point it's probably gonna be a rejection, but a part of me still wants to wait and see, even though i think i've already made up my mind where i'm going. why are they so slow??
  7. i got my rejection letter from berkeley last week; it was sent by regular mail.
  8. lxs, yeah, like chickendan said, i think it's a good idea to talk to some profs. in retrospect i think the SOP is definitely very important (which i sort of underestimated!). whether or not your interest matches really well with at least one prof is a huge factor as well.
  9. stylefaxee, stephen eisenman! i'm a big fan (not exactly my area, but i really like his work). congratulations! :-)
  10. i think it's very important to be specific about the program you're applying to. make sure to sell your application to one or two faculty members--they'll fight for you in committee meetings.
  11. re: columbia. it does seem late.... perhaps they have already notified their accepted applicants?? :?
  12. oops... yeah got the rejection letter today.. oh well.. wasn't gonna go anyways.
  13. has anyone heard from berkeley by the way??
  14. hi chickendan, wow congrats on the nyu fellowship :-) from my impression i think yale and chicago are probably better than nyu for chinese art. (but since this is not really my area i'm not positive either). having said that nyu's art history program definitely has an excellent reputation across the board.
  15. obviously you can't go wrong with either. so i guess it just depends on your field. have you talked to your adviser? chicago as a city is better than new haven, though
