Also does anyone know how well UMich prepares you for a PhD. I was told that UofW master's students take classes with the PhD students and that the MS degree is good preparation for a PhD.

I currently have an acceptance for Michigan's MA program and am still waiting on Washington and Columbia, but I'm wondering if I should just accept Michigan's program, which looks the most appealing out of the three.
I've been told Columbia's location would make it highly ideal for getting a job after graduation, especially if I want to do something related to finance. But, I've also heard from multiple places that it's MA program isn't very good.
Washington is obviously ranked a lot higher than the other two, but I haven't heard much about the program.
Michigan seems to be the best fit because I am very interested in doing Machine Learning, which I heard Michigan is very strong at. Also I have heard very good things about Michigan's MA program and that basically everyone gets a TA after the first year. But, I was told it is extremely rare that MA students continue to their PhD in Michigan and Ann Arbor is the least urban out of the three, making internships and jobs harder to find location-wise.

I was told that they would review Master's admissions after the PhD ones, and the results wouldn't be ready till mid to late April, but on grad cafe there's 5 acceptances posted in February. I'm confused. Has anyone had any news from UWashington stats MA? Could the results on grad cafe be fake then?

Does anyone know what the likeliness of continuing your MA to a PhD? And is the PhD program equally as weak?
-
depends on what you want from it.
in general though, it's not a very reputed program (columbia stats MA here myself)
Hi, could you explain in greater detail why it is not a very reputed program? Is it because of the part time/online options that make it less serious?

I emailed Columbia to ask what my status is a couple days ago and still have not received a reply. I emailed Dood. Anyone else have this problem?
-
I haven't heard back from Columbia either. But people on grad cafe posted waitlists, so it looks like its over?
-
I recieved an email when I asked about my status saying that they are currently reviewing MS applications and decisions will be sent mid to late April. Since grad cafe hasn't posted any decisions yet, I'm assuming I am not waitlisted.
-
I am under the impression that UMich has an April 15th deadline for its masters program too, but I was told that UW won't release it decisions for its masters program until mid to late April. Is this normal or does UW have an unreasonable late decision time? Otherwise, how would I be able to make my decision before recieving all my offers?
-
It looks like MIT ORC acceptances have come out?
-
I'm also curious when you found out about Purdue. But yeah all I have are 2 MS no funding offers.
-
Looks like Columbia just sent out acceptances? This is looking really bad for me.

Just got duke rejection. Tho it was nicely worded.
"Though we understand this may be disappointing news, being denied admission here is
not at all a negative on your record, preparation or promise for research in statistics; your
application is clearly very strong and was naturally highly regarded by the admissions
committee. However, we have applications from a simply huge number of highly qualified
students, and the competition for our few places (we admit <5%) is simply intense."
0/3 for now.
6 more to go.
Time to start drinking.
Strange, I got a different more generic rejection letter.

Most places which don't fund (or fund very few) Masters students will review applications even if they come in after the deadline. You should email the places you're interested in and find out if they are still reviewing Masters applications; I would bet you that quite a few are despite their early deadlines.
Does anyone know of any more beside Texas A&M. I've had no luck with the above method. Thanks.

I'm getting pretty nervous and thinking of applying to some MS programs for Statisitics. I'm interested in applying for non-professional MS programs, and I'm wondering if there are any good programs that have still open admissions dates. I know I just missed Stanfords (Feb. 5th bummer).
-
It now says: "In Review: The application is complete and is being reviewed." in my account
-
And it looks like Duke has sent out rejections today too. Someone else posted an acceptance to Duke on this forum, so I'm guessing no news means waitlisted?
-
Yeah, I'm curious too since I haven't heard from Michigan or Wisconsin.
-
For those interested my app center finally updated so if they've made a decision in the first round it should be up.
That's strange mine still says no decision even thought I believe the email implied I've been rejected from the PhD program.
-
I recieved an email today saying that they were basically too wary to admit me to the Phd program due to my lack of theoretical math classes, but asking if I was interested in a unsupported MS.
-
A bunch of acceptances are now on gradcafe, but I still haven't gotten any news? Anyone else have no news?
-
Nope I didn't post. But yes I got an acceptance letter yesterday.
Also I wonder if I got waitlisted because I sent in one of my recommendation letters incredibly late (professor was slacking). They reviewed my app after they'd already sent out some acceptance letters.
Are you a domestic or international student? I'm wondering because they seem to send out international news before domestic news, and I'm still waiting on results.
-
Were you the one Wisconsin acceptance posted on grad cafe for stats?
-
I haven't received any news yet. I'm hoping this is good news since from previous posts on grad cafe, rejections go out before acceptances.

Thanks garmungo for all the info! Are you visiting Michigan soon? I received a deadline to reply by April 15th.
