  1. Congratulations @mkh1991! I think the explanation does make sense. I got something like though you have stellar academic records, it seems that what you said in your SOP is not in alignment with the program offers. By the way, I said that I would pursue a PhD in technology and policy after the MS. I guess this is what Ed refers to. Actually, based on what Ed said many qualified people like me were rejected this year because of similar reasons. I guess too many high calibre applicants go for TPP this year. Anyways, I will go to Princeton in the end. Good luck to ppl like mkh1991 on the waitlists! Let us share your happiness once you get in.
  2. I got an explanation from Ed.
  3. The same here, I guess everyone gets the same format. I don't trust MIT anymore. They just wasted our time and let us wait.
  4. @Vympel what are your backup options?
  5. I applied to PhD in Structural Engineering but offered an admission to MS. Anyways, I will make a decision based on whether they would fund me or not. Any news updated Vympel?
  6. Finally, I was rejected by MIT but admitted to Stanford at the same day. Well, pretty sad.
  7. I have similar feeling as well. I guess Ed himself doesn't have the results yet and thus he is not able to tell an exact date sending out the notifications. Well, anyways, I am ready to go to NJ. Let's pray to get the result tmr no matter good or bad. I don't want the waiting to torture me anymore.
  8. Received a message from Ed' I am hoping that the last of our notifications will be going out either today or Monday. Thank you so much for your patience.'
  9. @wabisabi Thanks. But its just weird I haven't heard from MIT for so long. anyways, good luck to you with Harvard applications. In fact, CMU is not a bad option esp with full funding.
  10. Any news updated guys? did you call Ed to ask when the result would go out?
  11. @wabisabi Did you apply for MIT's master or PhD? I am still waiting for the MIT's result.
  12. @Archiekins I hope at least some of us can get in eventually. Ed didn't reply to any letters these days but he did tell me that they will send out notifications by the end of Feb and today is the last day of his promise. So let's see if magic thing might happen today. As for Princeton, it is a simply a 'yes'. the professor asks me many times to make a decision as soon as possible because many guys are stillon the waitlist. As you may know, Princeton is almost the most selective institution (don't know if MIT has a lower admission rate). But anyways, I will go for TPP if I am luckily get into there.
  13. Nope, notIng here. I don't know what Ed is busy with these days but he just simply didn't reply any letters. Just search him in facebook 'Edward Ballo' and leave a message there. The waiting is killing me as well. I am not be able to 100% focus on my thesis and research project.
  14. @Vympel, I think your guess is correct. Actually, I am just worried because both Ed and Prof. D. Newman don't reply any e-mail. I think the final results will be sent out this week (Ed said last week of this month). Let's see what happens. Wish everyone waiting for TPP good luck!
  15. Seems that we are going to receive rej next week. I may have to head to Princeton anyways.
  16. mkh1991, did you receive any message from Ed?
  17. Thanks, koo. Did other people ask Ed whether more notificatios would send out this week? Ed didn't reply to me though I ask him last Friday.
  18. Hi Koo, Congratulations on your admission to TPP and thanks for sharing your profile. I just wonder if you would like to tell whether there is any funding available at the stage of your admission. BTW, what field of area are you going for within TPP?
  19. Hello, Did you receive any news from Ed these days? I have a question to ask you guys. Do you know where the TPP's graduates went for and what their average (or median) salaries are? I just heard from a guy who is studying in the program that their career service is not very good this year and the program is very fit to those who want to pursue a PhD degree at the end. I dunt know if this is true. Please share more information if you know any. In addition, I think we can suggest Ed about improvement of the career service (e.g. resume book) if we are eventually admitted.
  20. Dear All, Thanks so much for your comments. The reason I asked for the ranking problems is that I was admitted by Princeton University PhD program with a very great funding. The direction is in risk management, disaster research (e.g. effects of climate change, mitigation measures) and insurance. I have to take lots of courses in engineering and financial engineering at Bueheim Center for Finance. I know Princeton's finance is very reputational in Wall Streets but when I looked at the ranking by USNEWS they give a low rank to Princeton's engineering. But NRC ranks Princeton's PhD program in my area as a top 5 positions. Could you give me some suggestions if you know more about Princeton's engineering reputation? Thanks.
  21. Hi Guys, do you think this ranking website's information is reasonable? It is about PhD program rankings. http://graduate-school.phds.org/rankings
  22. Hi Everyone, I found that there is still no thread about civil engineering programs for 2013 fall admission. If you are an applicant of Structure/Geotechnical/Environmental/Construction Management/Transportation, please share your profile on this topic. Your sharing will be a great asset for the future applicants. Below is my pofile: Undergraduate Institution: The University of Hong Kong (HKU) CGPA: 3.91/4.0 (major GPA 4.0) International Exchange Experience: UC Davis, Imperial College London Internship Experience: China Three Gorges Corporation; China Development Bank; KPCB; Chinese Academy of Sciences Research Experience: @UC Davis in Fiber Reinforced Polymer materials as Near Surface Mounted Reiforcements for concrete structures for 3 months; @ UC Berkeley (PRC lab) in Accelerated Pavement Testing using two heavy vehicle simulators (HVS) to investiate the structural performances of HMA vs WMA as a less energy-intensive materials for 3 months; @ Imperial College in study of vibration of girder bridge under a movin vehicle for 2 months (full-time); @ HKU in development of bridge damage detection mechanism using an instrumented passing vehicle for nearly one year. Awards: Dean's Lists; Seveal Scolarships; Undergraduate Research Fellowship; University Research Award (USD 6000) GRE score: Q: 170; V: 154; AW 4.0. Application Stream: Structural Engineering & Construction Materials Schools: Applied: M.S.@MIT PhD: UC Berkeley, Stanford, UIUC, Princeton Rejected: Admitted:
  23. mkh1991, are you studying at IIT by the way? I really think the academic reputation of your undergrad institution is quite important to the chances of getting into graduate schools like MIT.
  24. Hi mkh1991, Ed said they would start evaluate our application materials in early February and the possible time for the decision out will be late February. So, we still have to wait for at least one months! BTW, do you have any information in terms of the profiles of admitted students in previous years? I didn't find any such information in gradcafe yet. Good luck!
  25. I submitted my application to TPP as well. Well, as for my background, I am studying at the University of Hong Kong (rank: 1 in Asia/Pacific/23 worldwide) in Civil Engineering with a minor in Finance and my GPA is 3.91/4.0 (major: 4.0/4.0). I have internship experiences at engineering firms including China Three Gorges Corp. and banking/finance firms such as China Devlopment Bank and KPCB. In terms of research experiences, I researched at UC Berkeley for 3 months, UC Davis for 3 months, Imperial College London for 2 months and HKU for nearly one year. My focus within TPP is energy/environment field. My GRE sucks because I didn't prepare for it at all: Q: 170; V: 154; AW: 4.0. Good luck to all of you! I will be happy to see more people sharing their profile. I believe it would be helpful to future applicants.
