does anybody have intel on princeton?
-
me too; he wasn't in my sop.
-
both. sometimes in adcomm folks too.
-
hahaha, me too! his area code came up as berkeley so i thought it was a followup from uc. then he said stanford, and i started babbling. we ended up talking about napa wine country, which was unexpected but awesome. for those asking, i'm americanist.
-
here to claim a stanford admit!!!! promise i'm not a troll. call from paul sniderman. am going berserk sitting in my cubicle. best of luck to everyone!
-
congrats to the stanford admit!!!! heart racing now....
-
institutions more so, but a lil of both.
-
sure thing; americanist. best of luck everyone! it's not even 1pm in Berkeley... plenty of time for calls.
-

-
claiming another austin spot! the one day i'm too busy to check all day and an acceptance comes in. gradcafe = watched pot.
-
came across this earlier and thought i'd pass along. interesting info for stanford applicants (and others) on the adcomm process: http://jackman.stanford.edu/papers/pa04.pdf (just in case you want to sink more time in trying to read their minds )
-
hahaha, yes! in my case, i wish it was stanford, but yes!
-
ahhh, well that doesn't bode well for me. no nashville in my future, i suppose, but best of luck to those who have interviewed!
-
for other vandy-applicants: if we aren't contacted for an interview, you think we should assume rejection? do they interview all accepts?
-
very similar v & q scores to mine, and i've had a bit of luck so far. and from what i've heard from faculty, the writing section doesn't carry a lot of weight, especially since they have your SOP and writing sample to look at. keep the faith!

i'm in american, which i've heard is one of their smaller subfields.
-
in at chicago!!!!!!!!! admit weekend is going to be tough, though... the one weekend my mom's in town to visit!
-
wisconsin is 4/4-5
-
thanks for this! i guess i can try to play it cool for at least another week.
-
congrats! i thought the same... seems like they may be doing it in tiers, or that they accepted way fewer gradcafe visitors. what's your subfield?
-
has anyone called the stanford admissions committee yet? any sense on when they're sending out notices?
-
to clarify, it says "pending" on the intro dashboard screen, but then when you go to the page with the formatted tables (checklist for application, correspondence from deb mcfarlane, etc), it's under the "status description" column.
-
just fyi to the uwmadison applicants, my website update has gone from "under consideration" to "your program has recommended you for admission," so keep a look out.
-
congrats!!

i had a similar experience with phds who i worked with for a while out of undergrad... they were very pessimistic on the whole academic path and gave me serious pause about pursuing a phd. so i waited a few years, tried other jobs, but am now more convinced than ever that a phd is what i need to do what i want. and to the (real) fears about the academic job market, it is going to be a hard push for us, but also think of the other things you can do in the hard times when things aren't going great in academia. tons of folks i know do the circuit between academia -> government -> think tank/policy advocacy and seem really happy. not getting the most coveted TT position at one point in you career does not mean going unfulfilled forever; you just may need to change gears for a bit. at least for those policy-interested folks out there.
