Congrats to every one who was accepted and to everyone who has made their decisions!! I've decided to attend RIT and 100% happy with my choice. Like everyone else, I'm also curious to see the work of yourlashesinmyeye. I'm going to send you a pm.

If you feel comfortable, I'd totally ask. If they don't give you more, are you still going to accept or not sure yet? I change my mind every hour. I want to just say the hell with money and do it, but my practical side is not allowing this. I applied to a bunch of graduate assistantships on campus because I definitely can't go without having a part-time job to cover some expenses. One assistantship I applied for offers free housing and partial meals, so if I get that then I'm pretty sure I'm going to accept.

Accepted to RIT via phone!!!! I was offered scholarship + assistantship, but not sure if it will be enough, as there program is pricey. It's a tough decision because RIT is my number one choice...I really, really, really want to go there...they have everything I'm looking for. Prior to hearing back from RIT, I told SAIC that I was interested in the BFA as prior degree student, pending funding. I just received an email last night that my award letter has been mailed. It probably won't be much, and that of course will make my decision much easier, but if for some reason it's decent, it might be tempting to attend there for a year, reapply to mfa programs for next year and maybe get in somewhere with more funding. I don't know...do I worry about money or do I attend the school I really want to? What are your thoughts on this? And congrats orangephotog1!!!! Are you going to accept?

That's what I got out of it also. I'm still waiting to hear from my final school, but I'm seriously considering this option, of course depending on funding. If affordable, I definitely see it as a good alternative for me for maybe a about a year because it's an excuse to go to Chicago, which is on my places to live list, it will give me an chance to work on my portfolio, and the opportunity to take classes at SAIC...I believe it's beneficial to experience as many teaching styles as possible and this is another chance to do that.

Went home for lunch, checked my mail, and there was my rejection letter from Columbia College. Just waiting to hear from RIT now.

Congrats, buddyholly!! Kelly, definitely agree that it might be too soon to assume rejection...though of course that's what immediately popped into my head. I wasn't even expecting an email from them because I was told they notified via snail mail...so now I'm a little nervous to not have received an email. Regardless, I've been anxiously awaiting word from Columbia College...so it's good to at least know that news is coming soon...whether good or bad. This is my first time applying to schools and I had no idea how much stress I'd feel from waiting, especially when so many people had been receiving news and I hadn't heard anything. It was a relief to finally receive something from SAIC this week...even though it was mostly bad, but good too, as mentioned earlier.

Hey everyone, I've mostly been over on the mfa photography forum, but lurking on this one. I just received by rejection letter for mfa photography at saic, but they did offer me admission into their bfa program as a prior degree student. I'm still waiting to hear back from the other two schools I applied to, so right now I'm considering this as a possible plan b. I've noticed there's been a lot of good advice over here, so thought I'd ask your thoughts on this...do you think this is something I should consider? This is my first time applying, so there's always next year if things don't go my way this time.

I received the same thing yesterday too. I haven't heard back from my other two schools yet, so not sure what I'll do, but right now it could be a plan b. If nothing worked in my favor, I was considering moving to Chicago end of summer anyway. So red_190 you're thinking it's a no for you, but how about you orangephotog1 are you considering it?

Sorry to hear...but at least you know for sure. I imagine this means my rejection letter from them should be coming this week.

Thanks, emeliej! I have my fingers tightly crossed for RIT. I’m a bit disappointed about SAIC…I was feeling somewhat optimistic due to the feedback I received from them on portfolio day.

End of March is a long time to wait!

Congrats longfeb (I like your name) and hdsl!! Still crickets for me...but hopefully something soon. Here's where I'm at: I did not get an interview notification from SAIC, so just waiting for the rejection letter. After completing my application, I received an email from RIT of their timeframe, which would put me hearing approx. the end of this week. I recently spoke with someone from Columbia College and was told they do not interview for photo, notifications go out via snail mail and prob phone call, with an approx. timeframe of three weeks from now.

Joker, your process sounds cool! I’d love to see some, but I know you don’t have a website…same here with me. I’m always interested in self-portraits, particularly because that’s what I primarily shoot. I never liked having my picture taken, but I accidentally started taking self-portraits a few years ago, and I’ve become addicted to the process. It was the challenge of being both model and photographer that drew me in…it really is a different experience than being behind the camera…you don’t see the same way, and I think there are both positives and negatives to this. I’ve become so used to this way of shooting that sometimes it feels somewhat strange for me to be completely behind the lens. It’s funny, with as many self-portraits as I’ve taken, I still feel quite self-conscious about people seeing them. I just had my first exhibit opening of my self-portraits last week and it made me so queasy.

Joker, definitely nothing wrong with straight photography. Aside from my Polaroid work, all my work was straight stuff until I started working digitally, now I’m all about having fun with crazy/wild/different colors…still straight though in the darkroom…I think there’s nothing better than a beautifully printed gelatin silver print. Scratching and melting sounds fun…I’ve always had an interest in doing something like that but haven’t gotten around to it yet. What types of things are you shooting? I’ve always wanted to work 8x10, but 4x5 is about the largest I’ve gone so far. That’s the size I’ve been shooting and contact printing my albumen prints…though, I’m going to take a stab at making digital negatives soon. I am totally still at the trial and error stage with the albumen process. I’m working on finding the proper negative density, experimenting with papers, and mixing up the right albumen and toner solutions. There are a lot of variables to work with and my time on this has been limited since I work full-time and go to school part-time/sometimes full-time. The whole process has been fun...I love all the trial and error and the amount of time it takes. It really furthers my appreciation of 19th century photographic processes.

Hey Joker, I’m still working with film too…as well as digital…and more recently making albumen prints from scratch. My focus is combining old and new processes…so not sure how this will go over with the schools I applied to. I love to hear people are still working analog. I think everyone should step in a darkroom at least once. Do you work digital at all? I was a late convert, and basically enrolled in a commercial digital photography program just to keep up with technology. Turns out I love digital just as much as analog and both have their place in my work.

Congrats lyslys!! You are racking up the interviews...must feel good! I hope you're right Erpnope...then maybe I still have a chance. Though, I still haven't received a single piece of mail since Tuesday of last week...I really think the postoffice has forgotten where I live. What a time to have a mail crisis lol.

I haven't heard anything from SAIC and haven't noticed anyone who applied for photo posting anything either. I've had four days with no mail, which has been making me neurotic that the post office has been delivering my mail somewhere else. If I don't receive some mail tomorrow then I'll really be going bonkers.

Lyslys, congrats on the MassArt interview. I agree with Erpnope, Morrell I awesome! I am fascinated by his camera obscura work. Of the three schools I applied to, SAIC was the only one I didn't receive any sort of acknowledgement of application submission.
