congratulations! how did they contact you? And do you know what is in store for those of us who have not yet received news?
-
Hi Caput -- if you don't mind, what else can you say about this Penn situation?
-
accepted to the American School of Classical Studies in Athens as a Regular member! Anyone else going or know anything about this program?
-
My friend was accepted to Columbia on Monday. I guess they've made decisions too.
-
Good luck to everyone this week! Hopefully they'll all start coming in before Friday...

It seems like a lot of people find out about notifications on a website. Does this mean the application site (embark and so on) or the "track your application" site that only some schools have after the application is submitted?
-
Yes, I know exactly how that feels. Its better to have delayed notifications...but that could mean bad things, too! double edged sword, eh?

I would definitely go to UBC. I asked a professor about Universities outside of the States to recommend, and he lumped Cambridge, King's College, St. Andrews, Toronto, and UBC together. He said he was particularly impressed by UBC. And especially if they are paying you to go there, why would you spend 40 k a year to study in the States?

Not sure what the reputation for philology is like. I know their archaeology program is good. Yeah, let me know! I just received an email from Columbia too....this weekend is crazy....
-
Same here, I don't know the faculty there, and I randomly chose two profs to talk about on my statement...surprised I actually got in. I think I'll call the DGS on Monday and maybe she'll mention a paid trip? If not, then I probably won't visit...
-
awesome! do you know if they do visits?
-
good news from boston u here...i hope the luck continues...and for you all too!

I want to contribute to all these anti-GRE sentiments! I got into a top ten program in a Humanities discipline with 550, 550, 5.5. If I got in with those Q and V scores, they mean nothing.

Not to be a downer, but Chicago doesn't have a wait lists even if acceptees reject offers. They implemented this system this year. So for this school at least, no contact, I think, means thumbs down...
-
Princeton's decided already. Maybe they are holding on to some applications in case someone defers, but for the most part, decision have been made. My friend who was accepted and visited gave me this info.

Don't know about Harvard, but Chicago has decided already.

Mainly for Humanities people-- How many of you, who have received acceptance offers, were contacted by a prof? Is that more common than simply receiving postal mail without having a prof. make contact either by phone or email beforehand?
-
nope. I'm waiting to see what they're up to also..
-
Any classics news here? Nothing from my end!
-
oh well, i see your list of schools, duh..
-
classics, waiting to hear back from ALL of my schools (minus one rejection): princeton, wustl, brown, bu, stanford, umichigan, and UCLA. It's troublesome that almost all of these schools have sent out *some* invitations already. what about you?
-
I'm bored, anxious, and procrastinating. Could there be a worse combination? Also a night owl here. Hello!
-
Yeah, I've stopped taking Agathon's comments seriously for a while. Silly person. Like I said, I hope I don't end up where he does!

Has anyone heard from Stanford, Columbia, or Brown yet? Or know if they've contacted students? ...losing sleep....
