  1. interesting... Some people reported that they got MT admit emails on Monday, not Tuesday. Maybe there will be more admit emails this week?
  2. guess it depends on the field but have you seen the reports on the career services page? http://www.tc.columbia.edu/careerservices/ some of the data are quite worrisome. For doctorate degrees, it doesn't look too bad, in my opinion. But it shows that it's not worth going there for masters.. Especially when the data shows university 'TA' as a form of employment.... gah-- TA is not a regular job..People are probably supply-teaching and they are considered as employed on this data. Just came across "intern" as a job title... jesus!
  3. Thanks. hope I could be at least on the waiting list... People probably won't turn down OISE, but maybe many admits applied to multiple programs and they have to choose only one program from multiple programs they have been admitted to. Any MT Music admits here?
  4. there's been a few results, both acceptances and rejections on the results page.. When I do a search with "Child Study and Education", 5 results are there for F15 admissions.
  5. Thanks guys. Losing a bit of hopes..bah. If I end up attending BEd program at Ottawa, I would hate to be competing against OISE-MT graduates in the job market..
  6. Dang. Did not get an email from them... Can I ask you guys' concentration and subject? Maybe only few concentrations/subjects got the email? I thought I had a good shot--Finishing up my masters degree already with TAship, summer camps and volunteering.. bah.
  7. Ah they sent me another email about financial aid. But yeah I doubt I will attend. Still expensive
  8. TC offers no scholarships for MAT K-12 programs? I got admitted but I don't see anything about scholarships.. Really? I knew it was going to be expensive but no scholarships at all? Anyone got scholarships for MAT K-12?
  9. I will be turning down my offer to M.S.Ed in ICC today. Just too expensive! Hope this $5000/year scholarship helps someone else. I wonder who's willing to spend nearly 100k for a masters program.. For areas where good jobs are guaranteed, maybe.
  10. Yeah.. waitlist on princeton is still pretty impressive. There must be a school that wants you!
  11. I have been admitted to a fairly good, but maybe not top tier education school. It's also where I did my undergrad (which wasn't in Ed). For now, I will be attending M.S. Program, but I know that it won't be too hard to stay for PhD/EdD at the same school--I know the program quite well since I finished my undergrad at that school 2 years ago. My question is that would a PhD/EdD be considered overqualified in public school teaching? I know some humanities PhDs+teaching cert who are being continuously turned down, but what about PhD/EdD in Education? And my doctorate won't be in Admin work, would be in teaching/curriculum etc. I would be a bit hesitant to stay for PhD/EdD if I would be considered over-qualified in public school teaching.. I don't think I can omit PhD on my resume either, because the transcript from the school would show undergrad, M.S. and PhD/EdD
  12. According to OISE website: Applicants who submit complete applications by the December 1 main deadline should receive notification of results early April. Offers of admission are normally mailed starting end of March. Applicants who submit complete applications after December 1 should receive notification of results within three to six weeks of application submission, but no sooner than early April. So I wouldn't expect any results until at least late march
  13. congratulations. I heard back from only 2 schools out of 6. Long waiting game.......... And even the school I got into is releasing their financial aid in late March.. bah
  14. People tell me that if you're just going to end up as a public school teacher, there's no reason to go to TC, but if you ultimately want to get PhD/EdD, go to TC. I have a lot of skepticism about TC... Some say it's kind of like diploma mill, that you just pay a lot of money for mediocre education, taking courses mostly taught by TAs.. I'm getting full funding at Indiana University for K-12 certificate.. I think that's where I will go.. TC is so expensive.. I got into UPenn as well and UPenn costs about 40k/year too..
  15. Oh they confirmed that there's a lag between automated email and application system. I emailed the department that it was a good news for me. Only $5000/year scholarship however, I was expecting $10k/year like many other people, but I think I will be turning the offer down. Offered TAship at another university
  16. GSE emailed me saying that the decision is available online now. However, I login to the system, unable to find the decision. It still says "ready for review". Let me ask people who got in: if decision has been made, it should say "decision made", not "ready for review", right? I may call them tomorrow... Or perhaps there's a delay between email system and application system.. hmm!
  17. Pretty sure that the 4-week decision was a thing in the past. Not the case anymore. Don't assume rejection until they say so. I've seen cases where successful PhD applicants to top schools like Yale and Columbia did not get interview notification while others in the same program got interview. I have a friend who was heartbroken after Columbia PhD interview then rejected, and he found out one of the admits didn't even get interview notification.
  18. Yup, U Ottawa and McGill..... However it looks like I'll be attending Indiana University (my undergrad institution).... Indiana is offering me full scholarships+living expenses covered--which is unheard of in any Canadian teacher education program. Also applied to University of Pennsylvania (accepted but too expensive) and Columbia University.. I'll see what the UT's offer is. I may still attend UT.. Because I want to go back to Ontario and UT is the best program in Ontario, no question. I need more research in bringing US credentials to Canada if it's worth attending Indiana University with full funding
  19. So far, my background has been music teaching... Been teaching undergraduate music curriculum in past two years. But I don't think college teaching is right for me. Looking for something new.. I think because I've taught music, I think they want me to look at all the elements in intercultural communication, including culture (music), language, etc, instead of looking just at language (TESOL). I keep thinking TESOL would be more useful than ICC.. but I could be wrong. Meh.
  20. Today I got an email from them. I applied for MsEd-TESOL but they think that Intercultural Communications is more appropriate for me. Kinda strange but I didn't want to argue with them. I let them consider me for the ICC program. For programs with rolling admission, I think they are about to release the first pool of admits. MsED Tesol is probably way more useful, especially abroad, but oh well. I think I'm headed to Indiana University with TAship anyway. Not going to be paying 30~40k/year when I can get paid at Indiana
  21. I'm on the same boat.. Not really big schools. When I was doing my masters I learned that even from 'small' schools there are a lot of great things. Not to offend anyone but one of my undergrad profs was absolutely terrible (yale phd, bragged a lot too) while profs from smaller schools seem to work even harder because of their 'inferior' academic background. I'm not applying for composition (studied comp. as undergrad though) but there are some prestigious composition programs around the country that I really can't stand. But I also saw many great composers coming out from 'smaller' programs too. I sometimes wonder if composers are distracted by rigorous academic curriculum at big names and not able to spend enough time on compositions..
  22. I think a lot of us have.. which school? congrats for the interview
  23. i don't see anyone applying to CUNY. Nobody likes CUNY?
  24. In case anyone is wondering.... They sent me an email today "I’m writing to update you on the status of your application to the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) M.S.Ed. program for Fall 2015 here at Penn GSE. I want to assure that we have received your application and that it is currently under review with the TESOL faculty. While it has been taking us a bit longer than usual to send out decisions this year (due to some major changes in our application system), we do value your application and hope to have a response to you very soon. Trust me: we haven’t forgotten about you (and we certainly hope you haven’t forgotten about us)!" The application process could be a bit slower than other years..
  25. which schools did you apply for masters?
