  1. I think Stanford GSE might be the nation's toughest ED school to get into.. Tons of rejections from search result... People with 3.8 GPA+80~90 percentile GRE in all V/Q/AW are getting rejected from masters Except for Stanford just because nobody gets in, I think you have a good shot at rest of the programs... HGSE and Penn GSE, Penn Fels for sure.. I think HKS is a bit more difficult but you can probably get in if they value your work experience. Good luck!
  2. You should email the faculty. I went to Indiana U for undergrad, and I know that they offer GA positions. There are a number of useless courses I used to take to boost my GPA, and these were like, "how to manage time wisely", etc. Any graduate students could apply for teaching these courses. Indiana's GA position includes full-tuition waiver+10~20K stipend. I'm not so familiar with Indiana's faculty of education, but I'm sure they have their own faculty GA positions as well. Indiana U has a sizable teacher education program and I'm sure they use PhD students as GA, especially in curriculum studies. When I was a music student at Indiana, I remember that elementary teacher candidates were getting taught by music education masters and PhD students. If you don't land on these faculty of Ed GA positions, there are campus-wide GA positions as well, teaching useless EDUC-XXX courses that I mentioned previously. Try to email the faculty and maybe even get in touch with current students. Congrats on your acceptance--I really like the university.
  3. Hello, I am Canadian but received Bachelor's and master's in USA. Right now I'm doing teacher certification at University of Ottawa. Although I have never applied to grad programs in Canada, I can tell you that Canadian universities generally send out their admission offers LATER than U.S. universities. You can expect your offers in March, or even into April. "UBC education" result search comes up with 1 decision in FEB, 3 decisions in MAR, 1 decision in APR. Offers could be delayed for international students as well. Also note that education is very specialized program, and it has a close tie to the public sector of Canada. For this reason, some Canadian schools accept almost NO international students. The University of Toronto, for example, says on their website that they accept "very few international students" for grad programs in education. I'm from Eastern Canada so I really don't know about UBC, but you should know that some Canadian universities accept almost no international students for education. It's kind of a backward policy and I don't really agree with it but this is the policy for some schools. So wait out for a bit more.. It's way too early for Canadian school offers. For my bachelor of education at Ottawa, I was accepted on March 15, 2015.
  4. It is possible to get funding at TC. The question is, how hard is it? Also, another is, can you make a living on it? http://www.tc.columbia.edu/admissions/financial-aid/financial-aid-sources/assistantships/ If you get RA/TA/AF positions, it would be impossible to live on the stipend. But I think it will cover more than the tuition. Doctoral Research Fellowship is actually decent.... Full tuition coverage up to 24 credits/year+20k~30k/year stipend Full tuition+30k/year is a top-level financial support for any graduate programs anywhere in the US... At my undergrad institution visiting profs were paid 40k~50k at full time, while TC pays 30k/year for 20 hours a week
  5. Like someone said before me, you'll need to re-take GRE to get at least 4.0 on W. If you had 3.5, you could have been just unlucky and had one tough grader.
  6. I submitted mine on Oct 30. However, they contact me mid-January about a missing transcript. The missing transcript was not my main transcript, it was just a summer language program containing 2 courses so they were like whatever. But it is true that my application was not complete until January 20th or so.
  7. I was accepted by Penn GSE on Feb 19th, for 2015 season. official decision was available on Feb 27. Last year apparently they were a bit delayed, they sent out "we haven't forgotten about you" email on Feb 3
  8. As an elementary school teacher, why do you need a masters degree? An M.T. (master of teaching) or M.S. degree with teaching certification from top schools (I.E. Harvard, Chicago) would be worth it, but top schools have mostly closed their applications, or closing soon and you won't have time to submit GRE. In USA, there's generally a shortage of teachers. You won't need a masters degree to teach. Why don't you just go through a certification process? I don't know where you live but in many states there are certification programs for people who didn't major in education as undergrad. 3.3 is OK as long as you can make it up in GRE, maybe not for top schools like Harvard though. I was accepted by Columbia TC back in 2015. It was a masters program+NY certificate. Columbia's program should still be open. Which subject do you want to teach?
  9. You have nice stats so far. I was accepted at Columbia TC and UPenn back in 2015. Masters in Music Education and Masters in intercultural communication, respectively. But I ended up in Canada doing teaching certificate instead. I had 3.83 GPA, 55% Verbal, 80% Quanti, 4.0 AWA. (mind that English is my second language) I hear that Ed Policy is one of the most competitive fields, along with IED. Harvard accepted M.Ed average stats are: 80% Verbal, 60% Quanti, 4.5 AWA. Since Ed Policy tends to be on the more competitive side compared to other cohorts, you may want to shoot a little bit higher than that, but generally the rule is to shoot for as high as you can. Do your best on GRE and you would make an excellent applicant. MPP should definitely help as well. (many of classes in Ed Policy might be just a review for you though, won't you be bored?) I'm going to be applying to Harvard and Columbia for fall 2017. Maybe I'll see you around!
  10. Finally got my rejection letter. I'm glad that it finally came so I could make a damn decision. The letter said I failed to meet the admission course requirement. I have Bachelor of Music degree from USA, and even though I'm applying for music teaching option, they are skeptical about my courses. For people who have international degrees, be careful. I'm heading to Ottawa.
  11. I don't think anyone would attend without any scholarships.. I turned down TC as well.
  12. Please let me know when you get the letter. I'm waiting too.. What strike is it? I'm Canadian living in US for past 6 years I feel like I don't know anything about Canada.. haha
  13. If anyone receives letters this week, please let me know
  14. I don't know about U of T specifically, I'm merely guessing. However, look at here::: http://www.ouac.on.ca/statistics/teacher-education-applications/tapp_march/ OUAC B.Ed applicant numbers: 2013-8,997 2014-8,994 2015-4,107 Of course, U of T is now OUT of OUAC... but still, less than half the number of applicants on OUAC this year... I bet, if they had enough applications, they would have closed MT application already. This year is historic low for teacher education programs. I guess people just don't want to do 2 years. Well, less competitions for all of us. If you want to see previous U of T ED program admission stats: http://ro.oise.utoronto.ca/RO_Official.htm However, like I mentioned, teacher education admission this year is WEIRD. Less applicants but less spots. U of T had 1000 B.Ed and 200 MT previously, they are transitioning to 700 MT (This is total # of registration, Not admits. I'm guessing 250-300 admits per year from now). However, with less than half the # of applicants, I think it will balance out... Might even be easier than previous years, because some applicants aren't willing to attend U of T because of tuition costs at masters level. ALSO, there's a rumour that the NEW MT will take FIVE semesters, rather than four:::: http://www.thestar.com/yourtoronto/education/2014/05/02/u_of_ts_teachers_college_scraps_bachelor_program.html KIND of makes sense for it to take FIVE semesters, as it has always been longer than ANY OTHER Teacher education programs in Ontario. High cost of living in Toronto, higher tuition, longer program... This would be a disaster for some people. U of T has been getting a lot of criticisms from current U of T B.Ed students, prospects, current teachers and other Universities for eliminating B.Ed,
  15. Same here. I'm finishing my masters degree this semester... TA'ed for two years while doing masters degree.. numerous other teaching activities and volunteers... I was offered entrance scholarship to uOttawa--I heard that's quite rare at uOttawa I keep thinking I would be good enough for OISE, especially with this year's low applicant number (hence, MT application is still open!)..... We'll see how this will turn out. With low applicant #, I doubt there will be any waitlists for people who applied before December 1st---it will be either Yes or No....I think. Sometime this week or next week will be the time for people who are still waiting to hear back.. Let's hope for a good news. By the way, the liaison said on March 16th: "Please note a final decision has not been made for all applicants who applied before December 1, 2014. At this point this is the only information we can provide. Thank you for your patience as the official notification of results are being produced and sent in the mail."
  16. Yes from Indiana and Toronto
  17. People keep saying Columbia is worth the cost if ultimate goal is PhD.... but I wonder why?? If we're discussing TC as a 'diploma mill', then admission committees may see it as that too.. Logically speaking NYU would provide more individual support and attention. I don't really see why TC would be good in long run if applying for PhD... just good because it's Ivy league?
  18. There should be 'first time user' or something like that, on ROSI. I think it's 6 digits, MMDDYY of your birthday
  19. did already 2 days ago.. no answer yet hmmm.. are they usually good about replying back?
  20. Even new students can log into ROSI.. gotta log into SGS to find student number and use that on ROSI.. Nothing on my ROSI though.. Guess I'm rejected/wait-listed : /
  21. Did they send you a link to "admitted student portal"? I think you should find their financial offer there. It took a bit of time for me to receive the link to admitted student portal with updated financial offer
  22. One of the results says: University Of Toronto OISE Child Study And Education, Masters (F15) Accepted via Phone on 3 Mar 2015 I 3 Mar 2015 report spam Unofficial acceptance by phone into the research intensive training field.
