    HGSE 2018

Hey, guys! Took my GRE today and saw my dream of going to HGSE go down the drain. My scores are below any GSE average. Given my subpar GPA, my chances are not looking so good. I am still going to apply though. I hope you guys all did well!

When you are at Harvard next year, please don't forget to help out gradcafe folks!
  5. Guys, have you beard about Georgetown University's brand new program - Master's in Educational Transformation? It is very hands on and looks perfect for practioners like myself. I will be applying this year. http://edtransform.georgetown.edu/
  6. Hello, everyone! I am applying to HDS this year (MTS). I am particularly excited about the fact that their Gender and Sexuality concentration takes on a feminist approach. However, I am worried about my catastrophic quant score on GRE (140) and my average AWA score (4.0). My GPA aint that good as well (3.1). Great SoP, LoRs and work experience though. Do I stand a chance?

@jasper8625 you are welcome! I also recommend going through all the blog posts of students.

@Saket Sinha It seems like your issue was the lack of clear goals as you are still confused which program to apply to. Have you considered special studies program?
  9. I would re-take it. I scored in 30% percentile on my GRE, and given that I don't have any quant background, I didn't want the AdCom to think I am completely math illeterate. You still have time.

    HGSE 2018

Hello, everyone! I am a devout gradcafe lurker, who has finally decided to apply to HGSE! I have attended two HGSE Diversity Recruitment evengs, and have talked to dozens of HGSE alumni, and I would like to share with you some of the info that I have collected over the years: - H is not "a perfect place but it is a special place" - Mohan Boodram, Assoc.Dean of Enrollment & Student Services - "H doesn't have outliners here. H has a home for everyone" - M. Boodram - Goal of HGSE Admissions office: fit is paramount. We want to make sure that you are at the right place - "Warmth of the community and authenticity of the people" -- Julia Deland -"Power of peer learning experience" -- Julia Deland - HGSE professors are easily accessible to students even before you enroll into their class. They want to make sure that their classes fit your interests -You can cross register at MIT & Tufts - Statement of purpose is VERY different from personal essay. Statement of Purpose is about your professional achievements & what you have done with your life & why you want to go to HGSE, and NOT about intimate/personal story - Go through 460 pages of HGSE course offerings to decide on which to take. It will blow your mind. - Your A.W. score is very important as most of the HGSE courses are writing intensive. - Get in touch with a student ambassador from your program. They give info on things that can't be found anywhere online. - Explore what you can do during J-Term (if you are planning on taking it). - Explore things that are unique to HGSE (J term, class with Sesame Street producers, class with Project Zero creators, for example). - Start your essay ASAP because most of the programs require lengthy, detailed answers. Essay for PSP, for example, is up to 1500 words. - Attend webinars. You get answers to questions you haven't even thought about it. - Sign up for HGSE Twitter and Facebook accounts to be updated on what the school is doing. - Message the alumni of the program you are applying to. They are super helpful. - There is actually no cut off GRE score or GPA.

@Edugy What do you think prevented you from gaining admission in 2013? I am a bit worried about my GPA. It is similar to yours.

    HGSE 2017

I attended two HGSE open houses and nobody supported this statistic. Each program at HGSE has its own admission statistics. Some programs are more popular and hence more competitive. Others are more lenient.

I am crying over here :') Did she have good GRE scores though? How would you evaluate my stats? Thanks!
  14. Hello, HGSE hopefuls! I started the thread for HGSE last year but ended up not applying due to extremely low GRE scores. I decided to take another year to work, and get more experience in the education sector. So, here are are my stats. Let me know what you think. Be brutal!Applying for M.A I am an international applicant. Program: PSP (practice strand)GRE Score: V 155, Q 140, AWA: 4.0 (will be retaking it)GPA: 3.05 (2 health related withdrawals recommended by the university and some very low grades)Work Experience: multiple internship & volunteer experiences in youth development throughout college (turned my last internship into a full-time job J). 1.5 years as a project coordinator at a leading policy research institution in the world. 8 months of teaching experience at a university outside of the United States. And I just started working on health promotion project among school-age children. Undergrad Institution (Public, Private, Ivy, etc..): international student at a private city school Research Experience: My research experience is limited to my undergraduate years. I am more into project development, management and fundraising rather than research. What Other Schools Are You Applying To: Columbia MSW (no GRE required!) I have visted both HGSE and Columbia MSW open houses. HGSE commnity, that they endearingly call "hugsie", is so warm and close-knit. The curriculum is extremely flexible. The student body is so diverse! P.S. Info about HGSE having 50% acceptance rate is total b.s.
