Columbia's Lydia Liu is fantastic! I don't know so much about the other modernists, but I have a total girl-crush on her even though I'm interested in way earlier things.
I'm going to try to go in March, during my spring break. Yeah, I was hoping they would host something officially so we'd get to meet everyone else, but I guess this way we can attend classes, etc. and get a feel for how things normally are.
Has anyone ever managed to combine campus visits? I'm in New England right now, and I've gotten accepted to two Californian schools. Both are willing to pay for (some) of the travel, but if I can somehow do this in a single trip, it'd be cheaper for all three of us. But I'd feel super awkward asking....
Delurking again to ask if those of you who've gotten funded acceptances would mind giving me a bit of advice. >.< This is going to sound really stupid, but how can I tell if the offer I've gotten is competitive or not? Slash, how negotiable, if at all, are they?
Eep, just got an email from a professor at Columbia, where I applied for a PhD in EALC. He wants to call me to have a "brief conversation", and I'm freaking out. Is this, like, an interview?
