  1. I have a question about this.  I am considering asking for more aid (and am hoping some offers were turned dow by when I ask in hopes that the potential to receive more funding will increase), but I'm wondering who I should talk to?  Do I call financial aid?  Or do I call the person who offered me the current funding situation in admissions?

  2. I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks now and I am finally desperate enough to post... I was admitted to BC for an mts with a full tuition fellowship and I am still waiting to hear back from a Yale MAR concentrate in Ethics. I foolishly didn't know how ridiculously competitive the concentrated mar programs are and now i find myself trying hard not to despair during this last week. If I have yet to be accepted, is it likely that a rejection awaits on their final decision day? Seems a lot of yale div acceptances have already gone out...

If I understand correctly, the way admission works for the MARc's is based on individual faculty review.  Since individual faculty members are given the files of potential admits you may have one who gets some in early and others who wait until the deadline.  There have only been a couple MAR acceptances on here and most have been comprehensive, I think there has been one mention of an acceptance for an MARc.  I've also looked at past years on here and it is not all that uncommon to have most go out on the deadline.  Don't feel bad yet!

Also congrats on your acceptance and funding for BC!

  3. Is this sarcastic? I can't see how that is a bummer!

I was just hoping for more I guess.  I mean, realistically it is not a bad position to be in.  It's just with my undergrad debt it's kind of scary having to go into more.  But it IS education, so it's definitely worth it.  But that's just the first news I've heard from anywhere, we'll see what other places say.  I'm still hopeful!

  4. I don't think I had to list any specific focus beyond just Bible, but it would be NT (Is that what you're asking?)

It sounds like the MARc is something which gets decided when specific faculty make the decisions, so not all at once. It said that my application status would be officially updated March 15th, and that's when I'll get financial information, but that they wanted to tell me now... so yeah, March 15th is the date, but I would expect people to start also getting notifications.

    Shalom, and best of luck!

You don't have to list it, no.  But cool, I'm also looking to do NT.

I'm pretty sure you're correct on that.  You just happened to be lucky enough to get a faculty member that got things done a little early!  Haha.  It's just good to know the process is underway.  Of course that also means I'm checking my email constantly.

  5. Just found this site--I must say it's pretty cathartic reading these posts!

I applied to: Duke Div MTS, Yale Div MAR concentrate in Bible, ND MTS, Union Theological Seminary MAR NT.

Got acceptance emails from YDS and Union today. WHOO! No word on finances from YDS; they said that would be on March 15th.

For Union, I was offered essentially full tuition/fees (27,500) for each year. Which is pretty awesome and surprising (didn't expect that kind of scholarship from Union) except... I have to accept/reject it by March 15th : /

Here's hoping that Duke and ND let people know before then!

I wonder if your acceptance to the MARc means more will go out this week.  There are a few of us here who have applied and have been waiting to hear from someone who has been accepted.  I see you applied for the concentration in Bible, do you have a specific focus?

  6. Well just got an email from Candler after I sent them an email about aid.  Upon my admission they said I'd learn about funding a few weeks from then during February, but they are just now finishing their application reviews.  The first round of funding decisions for MTS go out the week of March 11th....so basically I'm expecting next week and the week after to be the weeks of truth as far as funding and admission.

  7. Try the FAFSA live chat help:

    http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/contact.htmhttp://www.fafsa.ed.gov/contact.htm

I had a different question when filling out my FAFSA, and they responded within 3 or 4 minutes. Best part was that I then had the answer in writing, to keep for my records/future reference. With something as important as this, you want to get responses directly from the source, not the anonymous Internet masses. Good luck.

Thanks for this, I will definitely get in contact with them.

  8. Hey all,

I just want a little clarity about filing FAFSA as an upcoming graduate student (I start in the Fall).

During the year of 2012 I was a full-time undergraduate student and technically a dependent, so my parents claimed me on their taxes (I don't make enough income to file taxes).  For the 2013-2014 FAFSA I am listed as an independent since I am a graduate student, and I have the option to include my parents' tax information like I have had to do in the past a dependent.

I am just making sure, since I was claimed as a dependent for last year, but am now having to do FAFSA as an independent for this upcoming school year, that's okay to do, right?  I just want to make sure I'm not doing anything illegal or something haha.  If anyone can shed light on my slight confusion, I'd really appreciate it!

  9. Obviously the best Gospel, it got greenlighted for a sequel.

Congrats on Loyola! I had an interview with BC (for the MTS) today.

I agree!  I wrote my senior thesis on Lucan eschatology.

    Good luck on your interview.

As of right now, like many of you, still waiting to hear from those March admissions decisions.  Also still waiting to see what Candler will offer me funding wise.  I should hear before February is over.

  10. Got a letter from Candler yesterday that is kind of ambiguous, or at least it seems that way to me.  It thanked me for my interest in their MTS program, gave a list of some of the things I will learn and come to value in their program, was told about their two tracks and common courses, then it ends with, "We hope that you will choose Candler as the place to pursue your Master of Theological Studies degree.  We welcome your contributions to our exciting community of faith and learning."

So it almost sounds like I've been accepted without actually saying I have been?  The decision letter on OPUS is still not available.  Anyone want to help clarify? haha.
