  1. First, congratulations to your offers! I am a first year PhD at UW Biostats now. I'd like to provide you with something I know. In my year, there are 5 masters and 2 out of them are funded now (1 for TA and 1 for RA). The guy who is doing RA once told me that he contacted one of the professors and after several talks he got that position. I don't know how another guy got his TA. I guess the likelihood of you getting funded depends on how many PhD at last enrolled in this year. First-year PhD students have priority to get funded for sure. As for the PhD pathway you mentioned, I am sorry that I am not quite familiar with this part. I don't know any 2nd-year or 3rd-year PhD student here who was first admitted to our master program then got into our PhD program. You'd better to ask this from department directly. Hope this is useful.
  2. For those who may be interested: I just got a phone call from Brown Biostatistics PhD program and it was an informal offer. The formal offer would be sent out later.
  3. Honestly speaking, I guess the NRC rankings may not reflect current situations. It seems to be made many years ago, right?
  4. Anyone has idea about how to withdraw application politely?
  5. Yes. I guess it is the general situation right now. But I am not too worried about it.
  6. Just got Columbia Biostatistics PhD... Funding information will be available later.
  7. I think that you could just wait for the result. I don't think you need to do anything more during the waiting period. Since you have already got the CMU offer, I guess the waiting time will not be so suffering. The "worst" result for you is that at last you are not off wait-list from UW Seattle and then you accept the CMU offer on April 15th. It sounds not bad, right? Of course, this is just my personal advice.
  8. I know that UW Seattle's Biostatistics PhD program provides their students with a Statistical Genetics Pathway. I am not sure if the Statistics PhD program also has same choice. But it is true that UW Seattle's Stats and Biostats programs are always closely linked. I think you could wait until April before you make any decision. Does CMU ask you to reply to the offer right now or do you have any reason to reply to the offer at this early stage?
  9. I guess I will also not go there due to my tight schedule....
  10. I was at JHU last weekend. I am busy doing my homework these days so haven't got chance to share my experience with anybody. Maybe later I will find some time to write something I feel. Anyway, JHU has a very very nice program and I really enjoyed the campus visit there. I will also go to Brown. See you at Brown!
  11. My email seems not personalized. It was an email asking me to check the website. I got the campus visit invitation yesterday and the email was also generic. I may not go there since it is a long distance from my current location and I have very tight schedule in late Feb...
  12. Hey, I just got admitted to UNC Biostatistics PhD. I didn't receive any invitation from UNC before so I may not go there for visit. I'd like to see your comments about your visiting there!
