Just curious!

I know it's a small program and unlikely ill find someone here, but thought it was worth a shot because I've seen a couple posts this year on the results forum of acceptances and interviews there.

Hello folks, I was wondering about how MUSC is perceived in the biostat academic community? I know they are not a top 10 program, but how do they compare with other schools (that arent top 10) like Boston, Pittsburgh, Iowa, and/or Yale (I assumed is higher because of name brand, even though biostat department isn't that well known)? Would a Biostat PhD from MUSC still be respected among the academic community? I don't hear of them much on these forums and assume they have a relatively small department. Also, being a Medical school, I'm guessing that they are probably even more applied than other biostat departments... Right now I'm interested in a career in industry (Clinical Trials), though the possibility for an academic career is becoming more intriguing. Thanks for any help! This is just one of the many schools I'm considering, but I'm trying to get as much info as possible!

Hi all, I've made an account to ask this. I'm applying to Biostat PhD programs and today I received an email from Boston inviting me to BU's School of Public Healths Doctoral Recruitment Day. I'd certainly be interested in attending, but given the expenses (about $700 for me to visit), Im not sure if its worth it given I wasn't actually accepted. I'd hate to spend the money to visit and then not get in. So my question is, how often are students invited to a "recruitment day" and then not actually get in? I understand this may vary depending in program, but is it fair to say the chance of actually being admitted is pretty high if they invite you up? Or do they send these out to nearly every applicant and does it not really mean anything? Thanks for your thoughts/advice!
