  1. Hi! I applied to USC, UMichigan, BU and Columbia. As you can see in my signature, I have heard back from everyone except USC. I spoke to them a few weeks ago and they estimated 3-4 weeks so hopefully any day now! USC was my only school that didn't use SOPHAS, and I applied right before Christmas. As for my SOPHAS schools, they were processed and mailed out in mid January. Hope you hear back soon, and I encourage other people to share here also, as they isn't much information for us American MPH applicants on these forums :)

  2. Thats amazing!! congrats!! can i ask you a little personal question?  Did they tell you how much the scholarship was for?  The only way I would be able to go there is if they offered me a decent scholarship and I was just curious to see how much they are offering..
Thank you! Yes they said the amount in the email but this was not my financial aid package it was just a merit scholarship (I filled in that extra scholarship application they sent out via email when I initially submitted my app). More detailed financial aid info will probably come in the mail. Best of luck!
  3. Thanks Jamie!! Congrats too!! :) when did you get the admission letter? Also how much was the deposit? Hoping that its not more than $500. Lol. But uggghhhh so anxious now!!!!! I'm starting to find out about more people getting in!!! Crossing my fingers!!
I just heard from USC and was accepted via email! I applied for the regular 2 year MSW at the University Park campus. It said a package in the mail would be arriving soon with more info, but the deposit is $280 and there was so specific date listed in the email. Good luck!!
  4. I spent the last semester taking MPH courses at OU in the dual MSW/MPH degree, but decided to only pursue the MSW.  The MSW degree offered in the dual degree here is in Administration & Community Practice, while the MPH degree is in Health Promotion Sciences.  This gives a pretty good balance of community and macro level work from the MSW degree.  I'm not sure how it is at your school, but if the MSW degree is more clinical, and you would like to pursue a career in PH, then the MSW may not be as valuable to your career path.  But if it is in a more community based speciality, then I would say go for it.  Hope that helps!
Thank you very much - that definitely helps!
  5. Hi! I wanted to start a forum for people interested in dual degrees, specifically the MSW/MPH combination. I applied for this dual program at 4 schools and so far I've been accepted to both MSW & MPH at Columbia and the MPH at BU. For anyone that doesn't know and might be interested, admissions for these programs is tricky because you have to get into two separate schools (e.g., the school of social work and the school of public health) at the same university. I decided to apply simultaneously right out of undergrad instead of applying to one program and then applying to the other program in my first year.

......However, now I'm having second thoughts about whether or not I really want/need the MSW, considering my undergrad degree is in applied psychology and I took a lot of social work-related courses. I know I need more education in public health than in social work, and I'm worried that I might not get that if I do the dual degree. For reference, I'm interested in community/macro-level work (administration, policy), not clinical work.

If anyone has any thoughts/experience, I would appreciate it!!

  7. I got an email back in December stating that they typically send out decisions in early March. I also completed my FAFSA last week since they emailed requesting that we do so by Feb 15th.
I just heard from Columbia about half an hour ago via email - accepted! They said my decision was ready to view and directed me to sign into the application website. You have to scroll down when you sign in to find the "view decision" link - I signed in expecting to see it right away at the top of the page and was holding my breath! They need my decision by 3/30 and have a $400 deposit. I'm still waiting for a few schools to get back to me so hopefully by 3/30 I'll have a better idea of where I want to go. Good luck everyone, hope you hear soon!
  8. just wondering if anyone else has applied/heard from/ got an interview with columbia or nyu for the MSW program. I haven't heard of anything, and am starting to wonder when i will!
Hi! I was just accepted to Columbia - I applied on 12/18. They sent me an email telling me my admission decision was ready to view and directed me to sign into the application website. No information on funding yet but they need a decision by 3/30 with $400 deposit. Good luck, hope you hear today too!
  9. Are interviews standard for the process? I applied in January and have heard nothing from the school, I didn't even get an e-mail confirmation or anything. I know that they say decisions won't be out until about March but this is the only school where I haven't been able to check my status or anything.
I applied in December and in late January I got an email with a confirmation that my app was complete and information on how to set up an account where I can check my status and such. You'll probably get this email sometime this month since you applied in January! I got worried when I didn't hear anything for so long but apparently a month wait just to get an email is standard. Hope this helps!
  10. I applied BU for early admission, just heard back today: They will hold my application and review it again before April 30th. :(  Should I schedule a visit to show that I'm REALLY interested in the program?
I applied to BU, intending to meet the early deadline but there was an issue with my transcript (i sent it on time but they never received it)and they said my app is getting bumped to the next batch for review :( I was really disappointed but I've been in touch with the admissions office and they said that the next review date starts March 1st and April 30th is the absolute latest anyone would hear back, but it could be earlier (hopefully!!) good luck to you!
  11. I just got accepted to University of Michigan for MSW for Fall '13!!! Very excited! It does not say on the website yet, but I got an informal email from the Assistant Dean of Student Services. I think my heart stopped <3 Good luck to everyone!
Congrats!!! Hope I hear back soon, but I also applied to the public health program for a dual degree so my app may take longer to process.
  12. Has anyone heard from University of Michigan? So anxious!
Hi! I'm new here but I applied to UMich MSW for fall '13 and have not heard back or gotten any emails from them besides general emails about scholarships. On the application website it just shows that application was submitted, nothing very specific. It sounds like some people have heard back via email recently so fingers crossed our decisions come soon! Good luck :)
