I think that's something you'd definitely have to inquire with SSHRC or your Department about......I doubt that get too many people asking for less money! LOL...Congrats on the award, though!
-
Yes, I meant the year the applicant is in/entering. There must be different cut-offs depending on what year a person is in/entering - that makes sense to me.... Different number of applicants, yield different expectations. I mean, you can't really adjudicate a 1st year app against a 3rd year, whereas anyone entering 1st and 2nd year are eligible for the CGS and would more likely be read against one another. Who knows!...lol.....Congrats to MissTheory and to everyone again!
-
That makes sense Neatgirl. And maybe the year of application makes a difference, too?
-
Hey everyone.... I'm in Toronto and received my letter today. This line is mildly disturbing - "Payments due in subsequent fiscal years are subject to the availability of funds." Let's hope those business students with their extra funding can fix-up this economy for us.........lol
-
Definitely - I heard of one person at my last institution who was wait-listed and ended up receiving something in the fall. I don't know if it's an urban myth, but it provides a bit of hope! So has everyone heard one way or the other, then? I know the people outside of Canada are waiting - what about everyone in Canada? Is there anyone still waiting to hear from their institutions?
-
Sorry to hear that chenzitian - I hope you and the rest of SFUers hear tomorrow or shortly thereafter! Good luck!
-
Yes, thanks to everyone for their advice, tips, suggestions, thoughts, experiences, etc. Good luck everyone - hopefully Tuesday and the next week brings great news for all of those waiting!
-
Huge congrats, brewer! What a roller coaster of a week for you!
-
I just received word - My application was successful - SSHRC - CGS! Congrats to everyone! Last year my app at a diff university didn't even make it out of the SGS round - so you never know what can happen. Best of luck to everyone waiting to hear!
-
I'm hoping to hear back from the SGS this afternoon or tomorrow - anyone else at McMaster heard anything?
-
Sorry to hear that Snasser! But if anything, we've established through our various postings that the entire process is non-sensical and soooooo very random! I'm convinced they just put our names into a hat (a bowler hat of course) and draw......Wish you the best!

Hmmm.....Interesting to hear that Brock has released results, re: McMaster......I talked to our department's grad secretary this afternoon and she said she still hasn't received SSHRC results (I trust her highly)....or perhaps she's trying to soften the blow to my ego by making me wait for a rejection letter? Oh well - we shall see! Congratulations to everyone who is successful and better luck next year to those who aren't! Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences, opinions, theories, anxieties, etc.! I hope not to be back next year, but who knows!...lol......

Can I change my betting date?...lol....... Three cheers for optimism!!!
-
Agreed!...lol... I just love reading the various theories cooked up on this totally impossible-to-be-pinned-down selection process!!!...

I'd like to chime in here, that the organizations, institutions (and we) are definitely not infallible. Somehow, some way, my OGS application made it all the way to Thunder Bay before it was noticed that I failed to sign in the required spots. Also, somehow in the transition from department to OGS, one of my transcripts magically disappeared. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that mistakes happen - we're human, it happens. Greater transparency would be fabulous and certainly help clear up some of this stuff.......... I talked to our Grad Secretary today who said she only received notification of SSHRC MA results yesterday.......so that gives me a bit of insight into the delay.......ugh. Still wishing everyone luck!
-
I applied once.....didn't send money for the list of winners.......never heard a thing................................so I dunno................but probably.
-
I think it's fair odds to say that as soon as departments are notified, recipients will begin to be notified........so the date that SSHRC notifies the universities will likely be the same day people start hearing from their schools.......I know I don't particularly care when the university gets the results - I just want to know when I will get them!..lol....
-
I say we go with the first day someone receives notification from their SGS or Department.......Let's gooooooo Monday! (please, please, let it be Monday).
-
I'm gonna be the optimist now........I'll go with May 11th for the release of the results, then mailing.........
-
Congrats DOOD and ASHLEYV and all other MAs who applied and finally received their results. I'm going to pretend the PhD results are out also, and that I've been rejected....lol.....it will help me survive the next week! Good look everyone else!
-
Thanks for the tip. I have been checking the site periodically and plan to keep on doing so, JUST in case the status changes. I imagine a number of people in my discipline (English) will receive SSHRC awards, so I'd like to think my odds of receiving an OGS in the end are decent. Ah well.........here's hoping! Good luck to everyone else that is as well "second best"! (we know we're really the best)...lol
-
That is really unfortunate, re: reversion list, being at the top, and not receiving something. I, like mikaela, was holding onto some hope that being #1 on a reversion list for a specific discipline might translate to being offered an award even as late as August. And since OSAP and I aren't the greatest of pals right now, I might start looking for work if I am denied by SSHRC........can always do this thing part-time! It might be nice to have a somewhat steady paycheque actually...............lol
-
Wow....that is pretty unfortunate. It definitely does make it hard for people to make decisions about the coming year...boooooooo.
-
Wooooooooow........well, I've given up thinking about it, but I'm interested in the theories people are coming up with....lol......I think to an extent all grad students should go into CSI-style work.......I mean, we're all trying to solve the big SSHRC mystery, and in the end we could all just end up so, so wrong...... I'm just waiting.......focusing on the massive pile of work ahead...comps, etc....just bury my head and I'll hear when I hear! Good luck everybody!!!!!
