I got a Boren Fellowship!!! OMG!!!

I totally get you. It is probably wishful thinking to know anything today...so I guess next week, we will be taking it day by day. I know everyone is anxious but I imagine that those who are going to AFLI are particularly anxious as many will have to make plans to be in Gainesville by the beginning of June. Hang in there everyone.

I got that email...the second one about the updated money for AFLI (last Wednesday, I think it was...)

They are saying notifications will be at the end of this month. Last year, for fellowships at least, they came around the 18th...no idea what they will do this year.

There are differences between the scholarships and the fellowships. Scholarship applicants seem to get the formalized budget email. In the recent past, fellowship applicants didn't get such a formalized email.

jiroc, I applied for Zulu.

I believe I got those too. I didn't think about those as I'm a UF student. I even got that one about setting up the UF Gator account and then not two minutes later telling me to ignore that since I already had a UFID. I still think anything is possible and these emails certainly keep us guessing and hopeful and I'm sure relatively anxious. The end is near...patience, right?

LimaBeans, My particular email was for the UF Summer AFLI program. My proposal was for an African language. Hope this helps. I don't know about jroc.

Mine was directed to the Summer AFLI program at UF. I'm sure not everyone is doing that. But congrats on that email. =) What language are you applying for?

I got another email from Boren today regarding the domestic program at UF.....

Just learned that I got a Summer FLAS. This is great. Hopefully, the Boren will come through and replace it. One step forward...

I'm applying for the fellowship, so I received that "all fellowship applicants are receiving this email" a few weeks ago. Nothing really changed in my budget but I could be more flexible with my dates. So I sent an email expressing that I could extend my overseas dates. The following week, I received an email specifically asking me about my end date - stating that my original date (the on proposed in my application) wouldn't allow for me to leave the country while on the Boren but if I extending to the end of that month, there would be no problems. When I sent an update to the original email, I stated that I could extend to the end of the month...so I expressed that again in response to that personal email. Here's to hoping good things are on the horizon.

What AFLI program are you applying to?

I got a more specific email from them regarding my end date yesterday too (that appeared to be their concern). I sent a response not too long after I received it.

Same here. I don't know if it means anything or not. I guess I will be looking over my budget and dates (my dates are flexible) and seeing if there is any change. I'm on spring break - this would suck if I didn't have access to my email at this time...

Did any fellowship applicants receive an email this morning?

I don't know about where you are Lissybeau, but on my campus, the advisors seem to only help the ones applying for the scholarships. I think those guys had to turn them in early to our university and then it was decided then which to submit. For those of us applying for the fellowship, we were kind of on our own. There was a representative who came in December and she was really helpful. I have a letter of affiliation and I believe I did last year but I only got to alternate status. Here's to hoping for an upgrade this go round...

It's been a while since I read the past posts...but when did the budget emails come out? Very few, if any, applicants for Fellowships last year got them. It was all sorts of strange last year. I try not to focus so much on it but I understand how you feel.

Thank you so much Lauren2013...I'm pretty resourceful but this would have been a wonderful thing to have. It ain't over but I'm thinking it's unlikely....apparently for alternates they try to match to the country...for instance, if someone turns it down for TZ, they try to replace with an alternate who also wanted to work in TZ. It seems that there are not that many applicants for South Africa or perhaps Zulu....so there you go...

Alternate status....pretty bummed since they put me through the stress of finding an alternative program for Zulu with less than a week to do so. I know it isn't over. Hopefully the budget from UZ didn't scare them off. But there are definitely a number of factors that contribute to this, I'm sure. Well, nothing to do but wait. I'm flying to South Africa tomorrow....perhaps this will turn around later on.... Congrats to everyone who received it. Good luck!

I don't think anyone on this thread has said anything out of line or anything that would cause great concern for the program. Having been a recruiter for another organization for some years, there are fb threads for applicants....have to take the anxiety posts as part of the process. I've seen some pretty golden posts out there which could cause great concern when I was a recruiter but everything on this thread has been very benign in my opinion. =) Hopefully the merit and contributions of our projects weigh more than comments threaded on here for solidarity and support.

Probably not...I'm sure that someone from the program is probably lurking on this thread anyway. Wouldn't surprise me one bit.
