  1. Sounds like Dal is a good fit for you then - congrats on the acceptance! I won't be too sad if UVic says no to me and I stay with Dal, just UVic has a few more specific courses that interest me that Dal doesn't offer (yet anyhow). I did phone UVic today to ask about when they would be offering some insight and the girl said later this week with emails next week! My fingers are crossed I will know before the 18th! :) But that's funny Dal is staggering when people have to pay their deposit by!

Hum that is interesting! I just received it today and have to pay by the 25th!

I have not heard anything from Vic either. It says they won't have letters out until April/May so it looks like $200 will be shelled out. :( I am set on Dal as it is closer to home (Newfoundland) as the travel for the week on-campus to BC is a bit costly not to mention using Annual Leave to go to classes. lol Good luck with Vic!

  2. Oh interesting! I received my package from Dal and I have to pay my 200.00 deposit by the 18th! I am still waiting on UVic (my first choice) and hoping I find out before I have to shell out the 200 buck deposit.

    Hey Guys,

Just wanted to let those who have applied to Dal and received the initial acceptance letter, I got the full package in the mail today so have a look out for yours! We have to declare our intentions by March 25! So early.

I also emailed Calgary and was told that they will have all notifications out by the end of the month via email. :)

  3. Aw, sorry to hear sarah428! That's really disappointing. And that really doesn't make sense Dal doesn't offer waitlists! So frustrating because you are totally right about people not accepting offers, etc. I am also waiting on UVic (check my application status every dang day because I have a problem - haha) but I don't know anything about their acceptance % versus apps. And they take soooo long to decide too given that we have to have our apps in by Dec 1st - why on earth do they need until the end of April! Sob.

Finally got a response from Dal and did not get in.....the admissions office says that they do not even run a wait list for whatever reason....which I find odd since I am sure that so many people that get into Dal will get into other schools and reject the Dal offer....anyway, depressing....UVIC is my last hope....has anyone heard of the acceptance rate for distance at UVIC?

  4. Ha, I'm sure the acceptance letter you got means it's a-ok. Like someone else commented, I also hate how piece meal it all is for sending notices, etc. I just wish it could be online/email and it's done! No waiting around and some hearing and some not. So brutal. Good luck to everyone still waiting - so hard! UVic said they don't advise until end of April/May but that doesn't stop me from checking my status everyday. Haha. And Power Point, I've applied for distance for both Dal and UVic.

I applied to the MSW Leadership in Human Services at Calgary. Two year via distance. All programs I applied to were the distance option.

I haven't received an email from Dal or the package now I'm starting to worry the Dean won't sign off on it! Lol. This is my first time applying but I am assuming that letter is basically an acceptance and that it is just a formality for the Dean to sign off on it? That your acceptance won't be taken back? Lol Lazzypants, are you applying for on campus or distance at Dal?

  5. Re: Dalhousie MSW - I also received the same 'acceptance' letter/date as Power Point but haven't received the follow up package. I did get an email last Weds from the Dean of Graduate Studies saying congrats and info about how to set up my email etc though. I also applied to UVic but nothing has changed on that front - still 'File Forwarded to Department' and it seems on their site they say end of April/May (argh! so far away!)

    Hey Everyone!

Congrats to all who have been accepted thus far!

Regarding Dal. I received a letter dated February 7, 2014 stating that I have been recommended for admission and that the Dean has to sign off on the acceptance and that I would receive all other necessary information regarding registration etc within the new few weeks. I have not received this yet. I know I saw one other person here that received this letter. Has anyone received this package?

I also applied to U of Vic. and U of Cal. and have not heard anything from them. Has anyone heard from these schools or know when we can expect to hear from them?

  6. I hear you, it sucks to not be in the know about anything. A few of my friends have applied to UVic too but their status still says the interim review. They submitted their application after I did (mine was Oct 20th) so maybe it's just being done in order of received? My friend that applied at UVic last year said she got an email from them mid-March saying she got into the 2nd round and then received a rejection in April. Such a let down! I think I would rather not get a letter getting my hopes up like that only to still get rejected. Sigh. I saw on their site that they don't finalize until the end of April/May - ugh. So far away. I have also heard that if you don't get into grad school the first kick at it that when you apply again it does help - especially if your app was on the cusp for them last time. I applied to Dal last year and was rejected so maybe that's why it helped me this year. I wish we could get concrete feedback on it all - such a lot of time/energy goes into these applications never to really know proper feedback.

ughhhh mannnn......I am sad I haven't heard anything from Dalhousie! it is my first choice.....I also applied to UVIC distance, and haven't heard, and my status still says "interim review".....I'll be so depressed if I don't get into either!!!!

Thanks for the update tho, it is nice to know where everyone else is at with their applications!!!! Good luck to everyone and hopefully we will all know soon!!!

  7. Hi everyone!

There were a few that asked about the distance MSW for Dalhousie - I received an acceptance letter on Feb 10th (was dated Feb 7th) that said the Social Work Admissions Committee has recommended my acceptance to the Dean of Graduate Studies but it also has the caveat that although they recommended me, the final decision is by the Dean of Graduate Studies. I haven't heard anything further but I'm guessing I have been accepted?

I have also applied to UVic's distance MSW, which is my first choice. Not sure if anyone else is applying there but I just checked online today and my application status changed from 'interim review' to 'File forwarded to department' (not sure if that means anything or not but I was excited to see the change!)

Good luck to everyone - the waiting game truly stinks!
