I figured that there are several of us out there that would like this. I copied this from an old thread. It may be a little early, but I just want to be admitted to avoid another cycle. "So I thought that anyone who has rejected an offer might post it here with a little bit of info. I hope this might prove somewhat useful to anyone who is facing down the bleak inhumanity that is the wait-list. I was thinking we should probably post: School Name Sub field Funded/not funded Type of funding (fellowship or assistantship or combination)"

Unfortunately, graduate schools can be rude when it comes to those they deny. I wish they would put some effort into their rejection letters (some do, but that is rare). At least you were admitted somewhere!
-
Thanks for letting us know!

Don't mean to change the conversation, but has anyone heard anything from Maryland? I don't think they can be done with admissions yet (or at least I hope not). Also, for UNC there seems to a lot of people on the IR wait list. Does anyone know how many IR people they are actually accepting?
-
The thought of this cycle coming to an end very soon is depressing! I can honestly say that I learned the importance of "fit" this year the hard way (though I still have a few schools to hear back from - mostly negative I am assuming).
-
has anyone recently heard from or called that department that is located in the icy cold tundra known as Minnesota? I am assuming a wait list/rejection at this point.

CONGRATS!! sorry for jumping to conclusions (we've had Northwestern problems in the past)!
-
To be honest, it is creepy, but I've been overanalyzing them and I am sure some of them may have been accidental. I know I've done it by accident once or twice (p.s. I am very sorry about that. I don't remember who I did it to)... I wish gradcafe had an "undo" button. On the bright side, it does appear that the Northwestern listings are fake if we go by past trends.

This is me being far too attentive to things. For every single post made here on Northwestern (by me and others) someone keeps on clicking on the "red arrow" option and I keep on clicking the green one.
-
Unfortunately, potential graduate students are not the only ones on here. I can imagine a PhD student having a blast torturing prospective students. Academia is just like the real world - full of evil and good.
-
I am going to say that it is trolling because it will make me feel better.
-
Northwestern - rejection via phone? seriously? Someone please explain!
-
Thanks for the input. I guess I will just wait until I receive all my options and go from there instead of dealing with hypotheticals. I will only consider doing the MAPSS/CIR if I receive funding, but like most terminal master's programs I don't think there will be much of that going around.
-
This is going to be an odd question: I am fairly sure that many people with masters degrees (in IR, Comparative, etc.) have applied to UChicago. Hypothetically, if you are offered a position in the masters program, would you take it up?
-
At least now we know where they are having problems. I think they should just admit all of us. I am biased, but I do think the IR/Comp people are brilliant.
-
I do this and I didn't even get an email from them. I have issues. I am also in the IR area with a comparative streak. I probably should have just focused on my IR interests... I guess this is a lesson for next cycle if it comes to that.

May I ask what your subfield is? I am trying to figure out if they are making final decisions by subfield or just doing things randomly. Mine still says "Awaiting Program Decision."
-
I don't mean to be the one obsessing over Minnesota, but is it just me or their rejection system (killing dreams slowly rather than crushing it quickly) is entirely different from previous years?
-
On the results board someone posted the following : "After seeing somebody post that they had been accepted last week, I emailed the department to see what was going on. The coordinator of graduate admissions sent me a response saying that whoever sent that was trolling, the department hasn't sent out any decisions and will not for at least another week."
-
THANK YOU to whoever sent that e-mail to Northwestern!!!
-
I don't know what makes me feel more sick: the fact that I haven't heard back from most schools or the thought of exams...
-
I went through last years thread and it seems that some heard back from Minnesota over the weekend (actually on a Sunday night), so I will now be checking my e-mail like a maniac over the weekend as well.
-
For those that have applied to Minnesota - am I the only one left in "No Man's Land" (aka - application still under review)?
-
I am making it official : the Northwestern acceptance must be a lie (if it is not, please claim it). Thanks. This is not helping me sleep well at all.
-
Is it safe to assume that the Northwestern acceptance does not exist in reality? Really waiting on this one.
