That sounds like what the meeting in the middle of next week will decide. Maybe some more rejections will go out after that for people that just made the first cut, but like I said before, the chair wasn't too clear about what's going on there. The only thing I'm positive about is the existence of a meeting lol.
-
I was thinking that too, but I was worried that it was just wishful thinking. It also could be that the chair was just giving me the general information, which is useful to people on this forum, but he didn't know anything for me specifically and my rejection letter is just taking an extra mail day to arrive. Bleh.

I totally understand your pessimism, as I'm kind of in the same boat, with the UK waitlist be the first ray of light in awhile. I'm not that hopeful for Loyola, maybe because they rejected me the first time around before I went to get a Master's.
-
Interesting about Loyola, as the chair said there was a meeting next week where things were getting decided. I think I need to try to reach the DGS again...
-
No problem! It was very helpful information to me, so I figured I'd share it. As for whether Loyola does interviews, I don't believe they do, as results from past years don't mention any.

So I made a couple phone calls today: - UK has me in a group of people 8th through 11th on the alternate list. David Bradshaw said they go down that far into the waitlist a lot of the time but not always, so if anyone else is somewhere in that range, it could go either way but accepted applicants have until April 15 to decide. - Loyola-Chicago will be meeting in the middle of next week. Mark Waymack didn't say if they were making final decisions then, but he said they'll know a lot more by that point. He recommended I email the graduate program director Victoria Wike on Thursday of next week. On another note, that was a massacre just committed by UNC-Chapel Hill. Wow.

As I expected, DePaul rejected me. I sent an email late last night, and Kirkland already sent a nice reply this morning.

Hehe looks like some of the same schools are keeping us waiting. My biggest fear is that my fiancee's rank list gets submitted, and then about a week later I receive an acceptace from a school but her corresponding residency choice is fourth on her list. The computer matches most people to their first or second choice, so that fourth choice is probably not going to matter. I'm guessing you have a similar fear, with the possibility that your acceptances won't correspond geographically.

UK, SLU, Washington University in St. Louis, Northwestern, DePaul, Loyola Chicago, and Duquesne. Northwestern and WashU have rejected me so far. They were reaches anyway. My situation is unusual, as I'm trying to match up my schools with my fiancée, who is going to match soon for a residency in internal medicine. Her rank list is due this weekend, so it's been rather stressful trying to find information that could affect the order of her schools.

Does anyone know what's going on with a University of Kentucky? Acceptances have been posted, but I've received no notice.
-
Could be, as I don't put it past admissions committees to do something obnoxious like that, in the name of university bureaucracy (and inconsiderate of applicants' mental health). I just know Duquesne does this same thing, and there's a possibility with them that people get accepted from the larger applicant pool. Obviously not everyone in the larger pool is a real contender for a spot, but they don't find out until the others. DePaul uses the larger applicant pool too, but maybe they notify some people of their rejection in a timely manner (There is one unclaimed rejection notice on the results page right now). It's frustrating, but it seems like way too many programs are not very quick to inform applicants of their rejection, even though all it would take is an automated email...
-
It really depends on the school and even changes year to year for each school, but it's not out of the question for a program to draw from the larger unofficial waitlist after they've gone through the shorter official one. Sure, the probability of rejection is greater than the probability of acceptance, but there's no certainty of rejection at this point when they leave it open like that. With a waitlist of about 7 people, I could see them going through the whole thing if a number of people are accepting offers at other schools. So much of it is luck.

Anyone have any idea when Loyola-Chicago will begin sending out decisions?
-
Hehe no problem. I wish there was something that precise!

The first DePaul acceptance and the first waitlist have been posted (and one of my best friends is actually on the short list, so I'm very excited for him!). I was wondering though how exactly that will work, if anyone has any knowledge of their process. Are they first going through the candidates they just interviewed, and then they'll see what spots are still open after that? I wasn't interviewed, but I haven't been rejected or waitlisted yet either. Maybe they have an "informal waitlist for the waitlist" for all the other non-interviewed candidates. As a Duquesne graduate, I can tell you that they do that! On the other hand, the rejection letter could be in the mail right now lol.
