    East Lansing, MI

anybody know which are the best facilities at MSU for working out? I know there is an IM West and IM East and a couple of others--any one better than the other? Also, what are the CATA buses like? on time? suck?
  2. I'm American, but living overseas at the moment, and heading to Michigan State in August. I just signed a lease for an apartment that I have not personally seen, so it does happen. in fact, the manager was extremely nice and friendly. he said that he wants grad students, particularly PhD students. He also said that most apartments get full by end of May, so DON'T wait until August. I am very happy with the place I got--furnished, not too expensive, away from frat row.
  3. heading to Michigan State University---School Psychology PhD...looking forward to somewhere cold for a change!
  4. nice...I'm going for a school psych PhD in the fall. Not exactly looking forward to the cold...

    Berkeley

Damn it then... I've been waiting to hear from UC Berkeley too. They haven't officially accepted me, but I got an email in mid-March saying that they have made some more cuts since the interviews, but that I'm still in the pool. The dept head then said that "there are factors outside of our control that affect admissions of candidates." I was assuming that this meant funding factors, otherwise they would have already rejected me. Does that mean I won't get it?????

    A BIG HINT

So... this shows how pathetic I really am in waiting for notifications... but it may help... If you are trying to figure out when you'll hear about your notices, I went to the actual department site and looked at the online room reservations for the department. In the one I searched for, there was a "fellowship meeting" and a "interview meeting" listed for the departments I applied to, so you can at least figure out when they're having these meetings and guess whne you'll receive an email. I know...its sad that I actually came up with this, but hey, desperate times comes desperate measures.

    Getting more money?

you can always try to get more. Again, just ask politely. Say that you are excited about the program but ask if there are any other financial aid opportunities, as you are sitll concerned about your financial aid situation. Again, never hurts to ask. The worst they can say is no.

    Getting more money?

one of my good friends was on a graduate student admission committee at Fletcher School and she said ALWAYS ask for more money. She said that there is absolutely no harm asking for more money, because once you're admitted all they can say is no. She said that because some admitted students decline offers, that pot of money is then open to give to those admitted already. So ask away, as long as you are polite! Especially if you have a better financial offer somewhere else, you can always word it: "Thank you very much for offering me admissions to BLANK program. I am excited about the opportunity! However, I have been offered significant financial aid at another institution, and though I feel that your program is a better fit for me, I am concerned that I will not be able to afford it." I don't think emailing is bad at all, in fact, I prefer it because you can come across as more professional via email (unless youre great at talking on the phone, which I am not!). Good luck!!
  9. my friend has been accepted to Northwestern and Irvine for social psych. I think she was rejected from Berkeley. just thought it may be helpful to know that...i'm still waiting to hear for school psych
